When I was in my local video game shop, I saw a promo poster about Perfect Dark. It was a real life one with a hot girl that's holding a dragon. I was wondering if you know anything about it.

I haven't seen that one, but I have a pretty good assumption of who it is. It's most likely Michelle Merkin, the real life model who did the commercial for Perfect Dark, as well as a few other promotional photos. I've seen her armed with a Falcon, but never a Dragon though. Did you ask someone who works there if you could have the poster once they're done with it?

I bought a Japanese version of Goldeneye 007 from a website, but is the spyder in the Japanese version? Would the Japanese version maybe alike to the BETA version?

The Japanese version is not the 'beta version' in any way, shape, or form. It's the final version of Goldeneye as you know it, only with Japanese text and a few other minor details. The Spyder isn't a long lost weapon or anything. It was just the original name used for the Klobb, which was of course named after former Nintendo employee Ken Lobb.

How the heck do you earn those extra characters in Super Smash Bros Melee that are shown here?

I've received many questions about that image. Unfortunately, you can't earn any of those extra characters. That screenshot is just a piece of artwork that someone created using a graphics editing program.

I found this Goldeneye 007 picture on the web. One time when I went to the Bunker, and this is what happened! I don't know if this is linked to the Citadel mission because my game also showed this when I was playing the Egyptian level one time.

The error screen isn't related to the long lost Citadel at all. It's just the screen that's shown when the game wasn't able to load important information. It's likely that the Citadel was never a mission at all though, and that it was just a rough level during the early stages of multiplayer.

It's still possible that the Citadel could have been a mission level, but no solid evidence has been found to prove this. Just a lot of fakes and rumors on the net. The only shard of 'real' evidence I've been able to find, is the Citadel's name in the game's memory when viewed with a Gameshark... All of the mission names are listed in order, and 'Citadel' is right in there with them, found right after 'Egyptian'.

What does the term 'spoiler warning' mean? Please reply.

A 'spoiler' is a secret from the game's story. Different things happen throughout the course of a story, new twists develop, and secrets about characters are uncovered. Many players don't like to learn these things beforehand, and would rather be surprised by these elements as they progress through their game. 'Spoiler Warning' is used on the forums (and the Zelda site, I believe) just to alert people that they're about to read something that they might want to find out on their own.

In Super Smash Bros Melee, how do you do Luigi's super dive? Sometimes it works, but the rest of the time it's not that powerful. Is this supposed to happen?

The super blast with Luigi's forward+B move is random. It will usually be a normal distance, but every so often he'll blast all the way across the screen. Since it's unpredictable, you can often catch opponents by surprise if it works... Or accidentally end up blasting yourself off the screen.

Hi Det.. .I was looking over my official Perfect Dark player's guide (by Nintendo) and noticed something interesting. In the multiplayer section it shows a pic of some one choosing sims for a match and there is a sim callled a "pacifistsim" which is not listed on your site..... I think it is the beta version of the peace sim.

Yes, there is indeed a 'PacifistSim' in that list of simulant characters. As you guessed, it's more than likely the pre-release name used for the 'PeaceSim'. Many small details like this are changed before a game is released. Those lucky people from Nintendo Power get to preview games before they're completely finished, and as a result they end up having a few of these occasional differences in their guides. I had never noticed it before. Good eye.

Hi, I have a question. Maybe it was a rumor or my friends were just fooling around with me. When I first got Goldeneye for the N64 I was playing the DAM level, and while I was playing my friend shouted "Hey! Look there's that squirrel" he told me if you shoot it a whole other game will unlock, so what is the mystery of this "squirrel" or was my friend just being stupid?

There aren't any squirrels to be found in the game, no matter how hard you look. Your friend was indeed trying to fool you... Either that, or it was just a distraction so he could steal your snacks.

How do you do Samus' extended grappling beam in Super Smash Bros Melee? I can't figure out how to make it work.

It is a bit tricky to pull off the movie. Keep in mind that you use the control pad, and not the control stick. Here's the method that I use...

Rest one finger on the 'up' direction of the control pad, and the other on the 'down' direction. (Kinda like the 'peace' sign, resting on the control pad) Now, hit the 'Z' button to launch Samus' grapple beam. As soon as the beam is released, start rocking the control pad up, down, up, down, up, down, quickly with your two fingers, while repeatedly tapping the 'Z' button.

Be sure that you're pressing only up and down on the control pad, and not left and right. It's easy to accidentally hit left or right, especially when moving fast.

Who is the best character to use in Super Smash Bros Melee?

Melee is a very unique game, and there isn't a single character that really stands above the crowd. Every character has their own advantages and disadvantages, and each of them can be lethal depending who's at the controls. Even small characters like Pichu can be unstoppable with practice. And as slow as Bowser is, he's incredibly deadly in the hands of an expert.

But the two best all round characters are Mario and Link. They're both well balanced, and neither one of them have any strong weaknesses. My personal favorite character just happens to be Link.

In Goldeneye 007, the Magnum IS in mission mode. Natalya Uses it in Jungle. Kill her and you get the Magnum.

Yes, you can indeed get the Magnum in the Jungle. But Bond isn't normally issued a Cougar Magnum. Natalya is armed with this powerful revolver to help you on your mission. Blowing out Natalya's brains just to steal her shiny silver Magnum probably wasn't the intention of the game's programmers...

Since I don't have Pikmin, is there ANY way I can get the Captain Olimar Trophy in Super Smash Bros Melee?

Unfortunately, having a memory card save file from Pikmin is the only way to unlock Captain Olimar's trophy. It's the only trophy that many people are missing (myself included), just because they haven't bothered to rent Pikmin yet.

Why did you forget about the Perfect Dark Zero site? I have been looking forward to PDZ and even though Microsoft now has the rights to the game, I still think that you should keep the PDZ section up. Not many other sites have the dedication and pure quality than that of Detstar, and I would love to see that kind of quality for a Perfect Dark Zero site. I love Perfect Dark so much I got an XBox for it, and just because its going to XBox doesn't mean it's gone for good. Please keep the Perfect Dark Zero site. I just think that since PD was such a great game PDZ could be all the more exciting.

The Perfect Dark Zero website wasn't forgotten... It was just removed. I would have just left it up, but I had no reason to keep it there. Sooner or later, people would begin expecting real information about the game when it was released... And since I don't own an XBox, there's no way that I can properly cover this game. Video game systems cost a lot of cash, and I have no intention of forking over a large amount of money for an XBox just so I can play PDZ.

I'm sure it will be a good game though, despite the change in graphics. But I have no plans to bring the PDZ website back to Detstar. It'll only happen if I'm lucky enough to win an XBox or someone offers to buy one for me...

I e-mailed you about a month ago regarding the facility vents in Goldeneye 007 and that I believe that you were at one time supposed to get over on the other side. I think I may have discovered some proof on this subject. In the Goldeneye strategy guide there is a section about Multiplayer. On the page about weapons and game modes it mentions slappers only and a graphic is shown of Bond removing the grate above the bathroom stall with his hands and staring at Natalya above. A graphic from the beta version? possibly. What are your opinions?

There are two grates in that screenshot, one open, and the other closed. Bond just happens to be in the middle of a slap, and his hand is is passing the side of the left grate. The angle of the screenshot makes it look as if Bond is grabbing onto the side of the other grate with his hand, as he's performing a karate chop.

Congratulations!!! Your Super Smash Bros Melee website has successfully brainwashed me into buying my very own copy of the game!

Congrats to you as well. You're now the proud owner of an awesome video game.

I didn't even know that this website had the ability to brainwash people. I must only use this power for good... Although what I might consider 'good' would probably be considered 'sick' and 'evil' by others...

I just found the music from the missing Citadel in Goldeneye 007. Just thought you would be interested in Citadel's music.

It's not actually music from the long lost Citadel level. A file like that has been spreading over the web for quite a long time now. It was just a remix that somebody made, using existing music from the game, in order to create a new sound and pass it off as music from 'The Citadel'. Unfortunately, it's yet another one of those Internet rumors.

You should definitely do a site for Time Splitters 2. I am surprised that I still have not seen one on Detstar yet, and was even more shocked when I found out that Zelda was used instead. TS2 is practically the sequel to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Why Zelda???

There were several games that I wanted to feature, and TimeSplitters was one of them. It's the best shooter since Goldeneye in my opinion, and I'm still enjoying the multiplayer mode. But the Zelda series is incredibly popular, and I knew that the GameCube Zelda would be a hit. It takes an insane amount of time to create a decent website, and there's a lot of work involved once it's up and running. This meant that only one new website was possible. So I chose Zelda, in hopes of reaching fans of the series. But it's just not possible to please everyone.

What is your favorite guard uniform from Goldeneye 007?

The uniform I like best is probably the one worn by the Janus Special Forces. I know they don't have much color to them, but I think they're quite fitting for the bodyguards of the mysterious and elusive Janus.

This is about Sonic & Tails in Super Smash Bros Melee. Trust me dude. They are real. I even played as Sonic. For example: His B+forward move is a flaming somersault like Kirby's, but more effective. His B+down move is a Yoshi like attack. And his B+up move is a screw attack but he is surrounded by blue glowing spheres. So he is real.

If you honestly believe that you've seen Sonic and Tails in Melee, then you should definitely seek professional help. Seeing glowing blue spheres on your screen is never a good thing. I'd suggest cutting back on your medication. If you're not currently on any medication, you probably should be...

When will your website for The World Is Not Enough be open? I can't wait to see it!

The website for TWINE is a long lost project. The site did exist for a short period of time, but didn't last very long. First, the server on which it was hosted went down. And the domain on which it was hosted has since been sold. The game itself never even came close to reaching the popularity of GE and PD. Most people considered TWINE to be a major disappointment, because of expectations that it would be as good as (or better) than GE and PD.

So after all of this trouble, I decided not to bother bringing back the TWINE site, especially since it was never as big of hit as GE and PD were.

Who finds out these push-button codes anyway? Because Nintendo's official site for Goldeneye 007 doesn't even have the Aztec code, let alone any mention on the code to unlock the Egyptian level.

Also, I honestly can't believe that there's NO push-button codes available for TWINE... Or are they just holding out on us like they did with Goldeneye?

Rare didn't plan on releasing those push button codes. But somehow, from the long time well known '64 extra characters code', someone by the name of 'Dr. Ian' used a Gameshark to figure out how to activate all of the remaining more push button codes. Apparently, they were in the same area of the game's memory as the 64 characters code, so they weren't hard to discover. The codes were just left in the game by Rare, and they had no intention of releasing them. But once they appeared on the web, Rare decided to officially release the codes.

Many games have push button codes that no one but the programmers know about. The codes are just kept secret. Most of these codes are just so complex to enter, that no one would ever guess them by accident, similar to that massive series of button presses for the master codes in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for N64. So, TWINE could easily have push button codes. And if it does, they just haven't been discovered yet.
