Mailbag
Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually,
I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little
time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've
posted a few of them below.

Five
Years Following Y2K...
Super Smash Bros Melee already seems to be the most popular topic
in my mailbox, but two particular questions keep popping up, and
I don't believe I've ever posted the answers in the Mailbag... So
I'll start off the new year by hopefully clearing a few things up
for Melee fans. There's also a mix of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and
more.

I
noticed while casually browsing through the Super Smash Bros
Melee screens presented on your site, Ganondorf has his
sword drawn! Needless to say, this is a feat which I myself haven't
achieved. Please e-mail me and help me to learn how to do it(if
you know that is).
Action Replay codes were used for Ganondorf's
sword. He really is holding the sword, but just not using it. The
sword just hangs loosely in his hand, which is why there's one screenshot
of him 'stabbing' himself in the head.
What seems a bit strange about Ganondorf, is how he's actually capable
of holding a sword with these codes. Could it mean that Ganondorf
was actually intended to use a sword at one point? Personally, I
think his sword would look really cool as part of a smash attack,
which would also make his moves look different than Captain Falcon's...

Dear
DetErest, Isn't the model motorbike in the Surface cabin the same
as the beta motorbike that was for the Runway? I was just browsing
the Goldeneye website and thought of this. Thanks.
Yes, indeed it's the exact same motorbike. However, the one in the
Surface is a smaller version of the same image model. The actual size
of the bike is life-sized though, leading most of us to believe that
it was intended for use in the one-player game at one point. The most
obvious mission would have been the Runway, because James Bond used
a motorbike in that part of the Goldeneye movie.
When the motorbike idea was scrapped for the game, it seems as if
the Goldeneye Team chose to hide a tiny version of it as a detail
for adventurous players to find during the Surface mission. |
I
think you have done a wonderful job on Mario Kart Double Dash!
But I would like to point out that on Interesting stuff page three
you labeled a license plate saying STB perhaps representing "Star
Travel Bus." After looking at the pic very closely, I believe
it says STR representing "Star." This makes since considering
that all of the other plates represent something in Mario history,
and the star pretty much sums up Mario in general.
Yes, those license plates were pretty neat
to sift through. I originally thought this particular plate read 'STB',
but I think it does look a bit more like "STR". Being featured
in Mario Sunshine, Mario 64, and even back to the original Super Mario
Bros, Stars have been a familiar piece of Mario Memorabilia. |

Hi I was wondering in Super Smash
Bros Melee how sometimes Luigis over+B move sends
him flying really far you know more than usual if there is a trick
to doing that please respond soon. Thanks
That super launch move by Luigi is always
a surprise, and can really catch opponents off guard. It can even
surprise the player who performed the attack as well.
But, there doesn't seem to be a consistent way of making it happen.
As far as I know, Luigi's super missile launch is completely random.
I seem to remember reading some official Nintendo literature, that
mentions a 1 in 8 chance of happening.

Hey,
I was wondering if you could ACTUALLY get GigaBowser in V.S. mode
of Super Smash Bros Melee, or if you were just screwing
around. (If you were, then nice work on that imaging... If not,
then please reply with how you get him.) Keep up the good work on
Detstar dot com!
Giga Bowser normally doesn't appear as a playable character... But the
Action Replay cheat device allows you to enter codes that manipulate the
game's memory. So with a few codes, it's possible to play as the giant
beast.

I really think you should have a Super Mario Sunshine website on detstar.com because sunshine IS a pretty popular game and many people want to know all the secrets, tricks and codes (if any) for the game. Please reply, and say yes or no if you want or not to create a page. It's ok with me if it takes a long time to process (for the research, the posting etc.)
As you've guessed, it takes an incredible amount of time and effort to create an entire website. No one would believe just how time consuming it actually is. Aside from that, I've only played a bit of Mario Sunshine, and I don't even own the game.
New gamesites will be added to Detstar, but they'll be for future games.

LOVE YOUR SITE!!! The pictures/screenshots/FAQS
top any other Super Smash Bros Melee site on the web!
Okay, now that I've said that I have two questions for you.
1. What happens if you DON'T defeat a "New Challenger???" Like Mewtwo...
2. Is it true that instead of playing VRS. Mode for twenty hours
with one person you can play 10 hours with two people? Then Five
with three? Ect. I would really appreciate if you could answer these
quick questions.
A few years have passed since I unlocked
all of the characters on my own game. I never lost to a challenger,
but I did it on a new file just as a test... From what I remember,
you won't unlock the character then, but after playing one more
match, the challenger will appear again after the battle is over.
It's true that playing VS mode with additional people will accumulate
more playing time. Two players playing for 10 hours should actually
count as 20 hours, and so should 5 hours with 4 players. I don't
believe this method was intentionally done by the programmers, but
it's a little glitch that can be taken advantage of to unlock characters
a bit faster.

Hello
DetErest, I want to ask you a question about the train level in
Goldeneye 007. At the last room were you can go through
the shutters and see what is behind the door I am really wanting
to go through that door how do you get though there without
a gameshark you said on your website that you can get there by being
really quick but every time I do it the shutters go down quicker
than I do how do you do it please? I asked you this because I have
been very eager for a long time and your the only person who can
help me or could you just tell me how to do the cheat were bond
can be invisible without a gameshark and without completing a level
to earn it can you send me an e-mail back as soon as possible please!
I've
done it only a couple times, and it's very difficult to do without
a Gameshark. You need to start racing for the gate at just the right
time. Slow Animation might make it a bit easier, but I'm not positive.
It's been a while since I attempted the feat, but I'm sure you can't
just run straight to the door - Be sure to strafe with the C-buttons
when you go, so you're racing in sideways. You'll gain more speed
by straffing, especially when you tilt the control stick to force
yourself to be faster.
Aside from these tips and a bit of luck, I don't know what other
advice I can offer. It's very challenging, and even I had my doubts
as to whether it was physically possible until I was fortunate enough
to make it. Ideally, a Gameshark is the best way to get back there.

hey
man i love your site its got the best Goldeneye codes
ever! huggs and kisses to you det!
your Perfect Dark and
Goldeneye websites are my favorites
the only site out there that I know of that has the best info for
them so you are #1. i really cant find Goldeneye sites anymore in
these dark times but ive played perfect dark and Goldeneye and finally
got perfect:1 and 007 agent thanks to you! your sites helped me
achieve my goal thanks. i like your site a lot those comics are
hilarious!!!! they are cool too. i cant believe the characters are
in Tony hawk, good job. thanks Det your the man!
Thanks for
sending your comments. Both of these N64 games are still incredibly
popular, and played by gamers all over the world. There really aren't
a whole lot of Goldeneye sites out there, especially now. There
were several "big" ones, but they were incomplete for the most-part,
when the game itself was huge with all kinds of things to discover.
This is one of the main reasons why the Goldeneye site was created
- To include practically everything about this great game, all to
be found on one single website.
As for Dexter and Marley, they're not actually hidden characters
inside Tony Hawk's Underground. The game just gives you a lot of
creative freedom when making your own custom characters, so my friend
Crash was able to re-create the pair of trouble makers, and get
them to look pretty close to the way they actually look.

Is it possible to use the classic weapons
for combat simulater in Perfect Dark? If so, how?
Thanks, Matt
 The
classic Goldeneye weapons were included in Multiplayer at one point
during the game's development... But for some reason, the programmers
deleted them. They can be enabled, but you need Gameshark codes
to make it happen.

Are you ever going to add any new 007
games, like Goldeneye: Rogue Agent or Everything or Nothing on Detstar?
I'm often asked why all the other James Bond games aren't featured
here... Seeing how the Goldeneye website was the first to be created,
it probably seems only natural to continue with the Bond theme.
But in reality, just because a game stars James Bond, it doesn't
mean that the game will be incredible with a lots replay value...
(The World is Not Enough is a good example of a highly anticipated
game that failed to live up to expectations)
Goldeneye was an outstanding piece of work that had all the elements
that a great game should have. So, the gamesite was created as a
tribute for this groundbreaking title. The Team who developed GoldenEye
007 revolutionized the first person shooter genre, with shooter
games growing to become a huge market in the gaming industry ever
since.
It's true that there
have been other good James Bond games published in recent years,
my personal favorite being Nightfire. But as close as EA came with
Nightfire, it somehow or other just didn't seem to have that addictive
nature as GoldenEye.
TimeSplitters 2 is one of the best "new" first person
shooters in my opinion. I've spent countless hours playing, which
is something hasn't happened since the days of Goldeneye. The third
game in this series is on the horizon, TimeSplitters: Future
Perfect. Expect Detstar to have coverage of this game shortly
after the release.

Hello,
I've been checking your Perfect Dark pages for a while,
I enjoy the secret stuff and all the weird things in the game. I
play it a lot too, and it inspired me to do this. It's what Joanna
wears in Attack Ship: Covert Assault. But the dragon on in is a
bit different because it was too hard to work from the low-res tectures
in the game. By the way, did you know she had black underwear? Keep
up the good work on this and the Goldeneye page!
Sincerely, Øyvind Sørøy
Wow,
that's really awesome. The textures in the game must have been tough
to work with, but the final product looks great. I'll definitely
post it on the website. Thanks for sending.
