Mailbag
Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually,
I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little
time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've
posted a few of them below.

This
is without a doubt the coolest Bond experience I've ever had. The
game might offer non-stop hours of nostalgic gameplay, but it doesn't
even compare to the stuff I've learned browsing your Goldeneye
007 site. After seven years of being a hardcore Goldeneye
fan, I was amazed that I could learn something new.
Thanks for the all the info, I don't know how I ever enjoyed the
game not knowing!
Corey Bjorklund
Glad to hear
that you enjoyed the website. Many
things are hidden deep inside Goldeneye's memory. It's truly an
amazing game, because of just how deep the missions and multiplayer
modes are... Then when you find out that there's even more long-lost
stuff buried away, it's like finding a whole new treasure.

I don't know whether this is just in
my copy of Super Smash Bros Melee or what...
When I use captain falcon in the homerun contest and I do the homerun
swing he just jabs the bag with the bat and the bag doesn't fly anywhere;
in fact it hardly moves at all. It does, however, do 25% damage to
the bag without moving it very much.
Seeing this, I just jabbed the bag with homerun swings until time
was nearly out, dropped the bat and falcon punched it. I got over
1000 yards this way.
Thanks for the excellent site.
It's a strange quirk involving Captain Falcon, so there's nothing
wrong with your game. The sandbag never flies when Captain Falcon
hits it with the bat. I'm not sure if this is something that the programmers
did on purpose, or whether it's a glitch. Your technique of batting
it, then connecting with a Falcon Punch seems to be the accepted method
for this contest.

I
wanna know how to enter the codes to get the parts to build the
Bahamut racer in F-Zero GX.
You will need to purchase the Action Replay
game enhancer. It's a device that can be found in many stores that
sell videogames. While using the device, you will be able to enter
the codes
shown on the website, and obtain the special parts needed to build
the Bahamut racing machine.

In
the Waluigi Stadium of Mario Kart Double Dash, I noticed
that you didnt know what the bird like figure in the audience was
(first row, second from the left). i believe it is a cheep cheep
(fish from Super Mario Bros)
It's really hard to say what it is, but
I'm not sure if it's a Cheep Cheep. Someone has even suggested that
it's a Hammer Brother, but I'm not sure about that either.

Hello
Detstar,
On the Super Smash Bros. Melee section of your network
you have a page that tells about secret trophies. as i understand,
there are 290 trophies you can get normally. and with action replay
codes you say you can get 293.
is the "Tamagon" trophy is ONLY available in the japanese version
of the game?
the page on your site says "This trophy can be unlocked in the Japanese
version of SSBM, but it was removed from the North American version."
What I meant by that, is that there is
no way to EARN the Tamagon trophy in North America. None of your
accomplishments will result in the trophy being unlocked, so you
can't find the Tamagon trophy while playing normally... But it can
be activated with Action Replay codes. The codes
shown on that page should unlock all 293 trophies, including the
three special ones; Samus Unmasked, Mario Riding Yoshi, and of course,
Tamagon.

hey
man i'm just sending this to give you some major props on the Perfect
Dark and Goldeneye 007 sites. i stumbled upon
them last night by accident, and was shocked at the amount of information
you've uncovered regarding the hidden stuff in goldeneye (my friends
and i used to speculate over that stuff for HOURS on end).
i had a question regarding the blood that was clearly depicted on
goldeneye's box art (the texture still appears when enemies are shot,
but appears white instead of red): you made the point that it was
removed (the red coloring) for ratings reasons, but in light of the
massive number of items left on the cartridge, is there any evidence
it's still on the cartridge and if so can it be hacked with a game
shark? that would be a seriously cool gameplay hack. once again, AWESOME
job on the websites.
The impact of bullets is different in the
final game than it is on the back of the box. A set of sparks appear
whenever someone is shot, as opposed to the small explosion of blood.
I don't know if anyone has actually been able to hack codes for blood...
But I do remember that someone did create a code to modify the sparks
to make them red instead of white. It didn't look the same as blood
though, but it had a neat effect. |

In the sound test option of Super Smash Bros Melee,
the narrator clearly says Master Hand and Crazy
Hand's names, yet they're inaccessible in multiplayer or Story mode.
What's up with THAT??
The sounds are there, but they simply are
not used anywhere in the final game. I'm not positive what this
means, but perhaps at one point in time the announcer did actually
introduce the giant hands by name... But it makes the evil hands
of death seem even creepier when they simply begin fighting together,
unannounced.

In
the Mario Kart Double Dash section, you keep calling
Bowser Jr. Baby Bowser, well he's really Bowser Jr. because that's
what the manuel calls him. And he's called Bowser Jr. in Mario Sunshine,
and Mario Power Tennis. Bowser Jr. first appeared in Mario Sunshine
and is Bowser's pet. For the interesting stuff section, did you
notice how Bowser Jr. wears a bib just like in Mario Power Tennis?
It's hard to avoid
confusion when dealing with Nintendo's little characters... This
little guy looks exactly like "Baby Bowser" from Super
Mario World 2... He seems to be known as "Bowser Jr."
now, but I'm not sure if he's technically supposed to be a separate
character or not. As for the bib he's wearing, this screenshot here
shows a bit of it...

hi
i was looking at your disclaiming the sonic and tails myth in Super
Smash Bros Melee, and on the screen shot that said fake
on it there was another mistake in it there was a 145% damage and
it was white if it was that high it would be red
Ah yes, how right you are. Another sharp
observation from a keen Melee fan.

Do you own a PS2 or Xbox (evil microsoft)?
I've noticed that you only cover gamecube or N64 games but there
are many great games on the other consoles. Just imagine for a second,
the horizons you can explore by covering a PS2 game like Grand Theft
Auto. You could apply to a much wider population (up with the popularity).
Now if you're anything like me then I know that you don't have money
to throw away but just consider it as a posibillity. (Oh yeah...
if you ever do consider to invest in a PS2 as I have, get or rent
Mercenaries. It's a really great game.) Unless you work for Nintendo
(which would explain in part, why you have so much info on these
games) then I appologize for buying a PS2.
There are indeed hundreds of great games out there, for all of the
new generation consoles and the PC. But the only new generation
system that I own is the GameCube, and I don't have any plans to
buy another system. There are many other titles for the GameCube
that deserve coverage... But sadly I do not have the time to honor
some of these great games.
It's true that Detstar only covers games for Nintendo systems, mainly
due to my own background. Although I don't work for Nintendo, I
grew up playing games like Mario, Zelda, and StarFox. So, the GameCube
was really the only logical step for me to take, because I wanted
to enjoy the new generation of these games. That certainly doesn't
mean that I'm ONLY interested in those games... Owning Nintendo
systems has also grabbed my attention for games like Goldeneye 007
and F-Zero GX.
The game consoles by Sony and Microsoft are ranked higher in overall
popularity, and I could choose to reach a broader audience by jumping
on that bandwagon. But it's not a route that I'm going to take.
In addition to my own personal roots with Nintendo, I'm not a fan
of big corporations. Sony and Microsoft only recently joined the
video game war, with deep pockets full of cash to invest in this
market, simply because they realized that they could make a lot
of money here. They also have huge dollars to spend on countless
advertisements, which in a nation controlled by the media, is an
effective way of appealing to the masses. Nintendo has been making
great games for more than 20 years, and to this day when a Mario
or Zelda game is created, the release is always highly anticipated
and well received.
