Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually, I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've posted a few of them below.

Smash Attack...
Lots of Melee questions, and some curiosity over the Comics. I've done my best to offer information at your request... As I've mentioned before, I receive a large amount of e-mail... So don't feel personally ignored if you don't receive a reply, because I do go through my mail. Many useful thoughts and ideas come from site visitors, so feel free to share your thoughts: DetErest@detstar.com

In Super Smash Bros Melee, what does ditto do when you release him from pokeball?????

Although Ditto can be forced to make a surprise appearance in Melee with Action Replay codes, he vanishes shortly after popping up. He's released from the Pokéball, and just when it seems that he's going to perform his attack (which was apparently to mimic your character, and fight alongside you), Ditto disappears.

This leads me to believe that the programming for Ditto's actions was either removed from the game, or it was simply never implemented.

Hey I remember back when Perfect Dark Zero used to be a part of your site. You took it down afterwards. But, with all of the news of PDZ being a launch title for Microsoft's Xbox 360, with screens and articles, I was wondering if you could re-open the site to include the news. I know you probably won't get the 360, seeing your a Nintendo fan, but if you would in the future, I would like to see this happen. Also, what are your opinions on the screens and articles on PDZ?

I'm sure that Rareware won't disappoint with the next Perfect Dark. The wait for the game's release has been more than a bit disappointing for hardcore fans though, I'm sure.

The new style graphics don't really suit my taste, but a game can't really be judged on that, because gameplay is much more important... And I'm sure the new PD will have plenty of that.

Although I still have the pages for the PDZ site on file, the information is likely completely out of date by now... Remember, that website existed nearly half a decade ago, when the game was supposed to be released for the Nintendo GameCube.

The Perfect Dark site on Detstar is probably one of the biggest PD sites on the net... So it would be fitting to continue the Perfect Dark tradition for the upcoming Perfect Dark game. But in reality, I'm not the person who can make it happen.

Dear Webmaster,

I am a visitor of your website, and I've used your site before to help me with some of the unlockables when I first got Super Smash Bros Melee. As I was searching for some tips, I stumbled upon the "Debug Menu" section of your website. I started to read the pages and look at the images, and I was shocked about the 'Action Replay' and it's abilities. I started to wonder what it was.

Could you please fill me in on what Action Replay is? What is a debug menu? How do access it? Please write me back or post the answers on your website to inform those (like me) who have no idea as to what they really are. I would really appreciate it if you did this, and thank you for your time.

Action Replay is a cheat device (If you've ever heard of Gameshark or Game Genie, it's a similar concept) that allows you to change countless things within your games.

For the GameCube, the Action Replay is a Disc, along with a special Memory Card. The Disc and Memory Card go into your system, and you can select and enter codes. Once you have your desired setup, you simply finish, and the system stays ON while you insert the game you wish to play.

As for the Debug Menu, it's one of the coolest SSBM codes for the Action Replay. It basically lets you choose any character, any stage, and fiddle around with the items, props, and graphics during live action gameplay..

I was searching around your amazing Goldeneye website for answer to the following question... Why are the guns in the screenshots on the back of the box for Goldeneye never used in the game. The screenshots show bond holding what almost looks like a KF7 Soviet and another black gun that resembles the PP7 but just isn't quite it. Also the gun that looks like the KF7 shows that when fired at enemies, the enemy's limbs fall off. These pictures are intriguing to me because no such guns exist in the game.

Do you have any reasons/ideas?

You're right about that weapon resembling the KF7 Soviet... Because that's what the gun looked like when the game was still in development. Even the guards in this shot are holding the "old KF7", which looks much more like it's real life counterpart (AK-47) than the gun from the final game. Why they changed it, is another mystery. Although I don't know if limbs actually fell off, some earlier screenshots from Goldeneye do show big splatters of blood when an enemy gets hit.

Just to let you know; yes, the Goldeen in Super Smash Bros Melee is slightly (but not completely) useless. the only real good thing from her is that she'll break crates. the only advantage i can see to this is that you don't accidentally blow yourself up.

P.S.
what are you planning to buy as far as next-gen goes? the revolution looks and sounds pretty sweet...

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember seeing something happening with a Goldeen before... But even if the Goldeen does have a slight purpose, it's a bit of a sucky deal when you get stuck with a flopping fish, while your opponent releases an insanely dangerous spinning monster...

As for a new system, it feels like I just bought my GameCube... And I'm still enjoying it. But if I want to play the hot new games, I'm gonna have to upgrade to Nintendo's new Revolution console. That new Zelda looks amazing... And Mario Kart & F-Zero are sure to please.

Hello DetErest

First I would like to thank you for creating this insanely awesome website about Perfect Dark!! Its one of the coolest things i have seen on the net (and most useful too). So thanks for that.. your other sites are great as well! :)

I came across the question about playing with more than 1 simulant character on your team in the Solo Missions. Maybe its totally new to you.. but in my version im able to have 2 simulants on my team, in co-op..

Apparently, you can earn two Simulant characters on your team by completing the game on Co-operative mode. I haven't done this personally, however... I spent much more time playing multiplayer deathmatches in the Combat Simulator than I did playing cooperative. for

I've been checking out your Super Smash Bros Melee website recently, and I was hoping if you could help me with Jigglypuff's target test. I've beaten everyone else's, except hers. could you spare a sec to help me out?
-please and thankyou

Jigglypuff's target test is a tricky one, that's for sure. The hardest part is right at the end, where you need to float and destroy a bunch of targets in midair.

The technique is to alternate between floating and punching. With a single jump, float to the first midair target, and hit it with A. Immediately continue with a float to the left, and hit the next target. You'll need all of Jigglypuff's jumps, and I believe that she can only perform five of them. So, you won't have an extra jump to spare, and must rely on practice and perfection.

Hi, I'm a big fan of Dexter Comics and I have a question, how many episodes will there be when they are all published?

I have a lot of fun doing the Comics, so it's great to hear that people enjoy the episodes.

The honest truth is that I have no idea how many future episodes of Dexter Comics there will be... There are a bunch of different storylines in the works, with future episodes that are mapped out and ready for creation... And at the same time, there are other random episodes and gags that are still in the stage of being nothing more than rough sketches and scrawls on the drawing board...

As long as I still have the time to produce the episodes, I hope to keep 'em coming.

Why dont they feature Giga Bowser as a playable character for Smash Bros on the new Revolution game system?

We're not even supposed to have Giga Bowser for Melee on the GameCube, but Action Replay codes have enabled us to do just that... The reason for not having a character like Giga Bowser has to do with his strength and power - It's just not fair. Imagine a multiplayer match between friends, where one player chooses Giga Bowser... Although it doesn't guarantee victory, it certainly gives someone an advantage - And if that person happens to be a cheap player to begin with, it just makes matters worse.

Here's a question (about Dexter Comics)...
WHAT RACE IS DEXTER?

We'll, he's certainly not human - But you've already figured that out for yourself.

Rumor has it that Dexter originates from a small planet within our galaxy. Although this planet remains to be "officially" discovered by Earth's scientists, this alien world orbits the blue star known as Rigel, which is part of the "Orion" constellation as it is seen from Earth.

Dexter, however, is completely unaware of this information... He only knows that he's been here on Earth for as long as he can remember, ever since he was young. Instead of being a heroic galactic warrior, he lives a life of fun, pranks, and petty crime.

hi i am emailing you because you were lying about sonic and tails in Super Smash Bros Melee. my friend had me over and he had the game with sonic and tails in it. he wouldn't tell me how he did it but he had them both i sware on the bible on this. and i know your lying because the screen shots are from the game no one cam make that up. please write back and tell me how to get them.

I just had to post this message...
As I sift through my morning mail before leaving for work, this message gave me the first laugh to start my day...
It was kinda funny to be personally accused of 'lying'... On this website, I'm sure that I've clearly stated that at Sonic and Tails do NOT exist... The screenshots are fake, and it feels like I've mentioned that fact a dozen times.... But you go on to say that you have seen them yourself, which you obviously have not... And then you insist that I tell you how to unlock them, even though they aren't even in the game.

I don't even know where to start with you... Some common sense might work, but it might be quicker to bash yourself in the head with a blunt object.

Sorry little dude - No matter how badly you want to play as Sonic and Tails, they just aren't there.

Seldom seen in my mailbox, is original PD artwork... That's why this cool sketch of Joanna Dark was a pleasant surprise when it arrived.

In Dexter Comics, I just happened to notice something that Mary is looking at in "Hot-Wired" [Episode 69] the screen she is looking at seems to have screen shots from Mario Kart Double Dash. Is she looking at a page from the special members area?

The screen capture is indeed from the Members Section, and it could possibly be Mario Kart Double Dash... But since it's shrunken down so far to fit her screen, I can't tell for certain... I'd have to sift through the pages to find the one that I grabbed to add some detail to her screen. The bottom screenshot definitely does look like the Mushroom Bridge...

I would like to see scanned pages from the strategy guide for The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. And please do it.

Although many players would surely be pleased to see pages from the guide, Nintendo might have a different opinion of the situation... While Nintendo receives plenty of free advertising from Detstar, the act of "borrowing" their copyrighted material surely wouldn't go over very well.

In the final screenshot of the Sonic&Tails rumor on Super Smash Bros Melee, if you look at the very right you see none other than Young Link!

Good observation. Somehow or other, I never noticed Link on the edge of the screen... Possibly because I already knew the shot was fake, so I wasn't analyzing it for details... Plus, it's easy to be visually distracted by a blinding blue hedgehog.

There should be a place for fan artwork in the Dexter Comics.

That's a good idea. I've had a few requests for a fan artwork gallery, but I've only received a handful of submissions so far. If anyone out there wants to see a gallery, now would be a good time to create some cool artwork and send it in.
