Mailbag
Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually,
I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little
time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've
posted a few of them below.

Golden
Moment...
Once again, another Mailbag dedicated to Goldeneye 007...
The game has been around for eight years... But that doesn't stop
hardcore fans from constantly lurking around the Goldeneye website...
If you have something to say about Goldeneye or any of the other
games covered here, you can send mail to: DetErest@detstar.com

Dear
Det,
The Goldeneye site is by far the best website on Detstar,
but I noticed on a page for the beta Cradle I saw a screen
shot with something floating in the air that looks like a
huge metal hand with scolding hot fingers. What is that supposed
to be?
This screenshot was sent in by SubDrag,
and appears to have been scanned from a magazine, where another
graphic is overlapping the shot. If I had to guess, I'd say
that the hand was Joanna Dark in some promotional artwork
on the same page.

While
looking at some of the beta items on your Goldeneye site I
noticed an item named "heroine". I wondered what
could possibly possess the people at Rare to include heroine
in a Bond game. Then I remembered that in the movie, "The
Living Daylights" Bond busts a drug ring and if my memory
serves me correctly the drug that was being smuggled in the
movie was heroine.
|
I've
seen many different websites question what the "heroine"
item might have been used for, and most people assume that it's
a drug... But the spelling of the word "heroine" is
the female rendition of the word hero, and not the drug, which
is spelled "heroin". There's no pickup text though,
because the game simply tells you that you've picked up a "new
weapon".
Some people have guessed that "heroine" refers to
Natalya... It makes a bit of sense, but why Natalya would be
listed as an item is another question - Although at the end
of the game, Bond does manage to pick her up. |

I
have been coming to your freaking awesome site for about 5 years.
No matter how many hours I stay on it, it still amazes me, especially
the Goldeneye section, the greatest tribute to the greatest shooter
ever.
Goldeneye is a game full of mysteries,
and I was kinda surprised that no other site on the web had gone
to any great length to really cover all of the strange and unusual
things that can be found... So I started working away on various
articles, until I had nearly 30 pages of content, which was about
the size of the website when it first opened.

I
ran into your website while doing a nostalgic search for Goldeneye
websites. I was just kind of bored and not really searching for
Goldeneye, but seeing your site as caused me to reminisce back to
when I was 17 and used to hack Goldeneye with the Gameshark Pro
(such a cool device that could have been so much more if it weren't
developed and marketed as a mere "cheat
device")
Your website is pretty impressive.
I enjoyed learning about the beta changes and hidden aspects of
the game, such as the elevator in the beta version in the silo,
different style rocket launcher, the secret area at the beginning
of the silo in the vent, hidden
accessible objects and such. I was amazed of the discovery and codes
to access the Citadel level (I didn't know there was a Citadel level).
Sadly, many people just want to cheat...
But finding things in Goldeneye that we were only ever intended
for the eyes of the developers was the reason why I bought a Gameshark...
The first things that lured me in were the classic Bond photos,
and the island on the Dam.
|
I'm
sending you this e-mail because I was playing the DAM mission, and
in the 2nd tower in the dam appeared this UNARMED guard that appears
in the screenshot I'm sending to you. I want to know if this has ever
happened to you or anyone you know.
There is a glitch
in the game, where you can toss around an excessive amount of knives
or mines... Sometimes, it will cause guards to show up without weapons.
Check the Tricks
page for more info. |

Hello I am a big fan of your site.
Keep up the great work. My question to you is do they have a soundtrack
for Goldeneye 007 on n64? I love the music and would like to know
if there is one available.
As far as I know, there is no soundtrack
CD available for Goldeneye 007. The game was a bit of a surprise
hit, so even the marketing experts would never have even considered
a plan to sell music from the game... Perfect Dark was surrounded
by an incredible amount of hype, after the success of Goldeneye...
And as a result, a soundtrack disc for Perfect Dark was created.

I am a huge fan of your Goldeneye section and I was reading
your tricks and glitches page and found two that you might want
to know about(I don't have any screen shots).#1. In the Runway
during the opening scene(one of them) it shows a view from the
top side closest too the ignition key building and if you look
at the square white box at the top right side of the screen,
it's shaped like a heart. |
This
is kinda strange... Although I hadn't noticed it before, I decided
to try and figure out which object in the Runway could possibly
be responsible for this heart shape... It seems as if the object
in question is this square cement block... It's just the inside
shadowing that makes it look a bit like a heart when viewed
from above. |

Hey
DetErest!,
I know someone who sent me this screenshot from Goldeneye 007.
He said that he was multiplayer, and that his game froze up and then
came back on and when it came back on he said that he had a phantom,
and a d5k silenced (obviously guns u cant get in multiplayer) . I
asked him why there was no radar in the pic and he said that he likes
the 'no radar' cheat...
this story sounds pretty fake.
Well anyways I don't think that he's telling the truth my guess is
that he made the pic w/ a gamshark... what do u think?
When a story
sounds pretty fake, it's usually for a good reason... I'd say that
the screenshot was made using Gameshark codes... There are many different
ways to customize your weapons when altering your game's state of
mind with some Gamesharking action. |
