Mailbag
Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually,
I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little
time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've
posted a few of them below.

Secret Messages
Goldeneye 007 is always a frequent topic in my Mailbox. Despite
being surpassed by the technology of today's games, Goldeneye remains
a fan favorite for many reasons, especially the alluring atmosphere
that keeps players coming back. Several Goldeneye messages are among
today's collection of mailbag postings. If you have a question about
Goldeneye or any other game that hasn't been answered on the website,
feel free to send it to DetErest@detstar.com

I
noticed in one of your mailbags someone said they bought a Microsoft
XBox just for Perfect Dark Zero, but the game is now
on the upcoming Xbox 360 instead. Wow that guy sure got screwed
over big time didn't he?
At the rate
of Zero's progress, it seems as if the original generation of Perfect
Dark fans will get to experience the next installment with their
kids someday... Unfortunately, these newborn fans will have no idea
what the heck this new "Perfect Dark" game is all about.

Hiya,
I've got a few questions about the Debug Menu thing... In
Super Smash Bros Melee, how exactly can you
choose Giga Bowser, Master hand and Crazy hand? I don't think
they have a character selection icon like all 25 other characters..
And how about an icon for the stage selection?
When
setting up a match, you don't have a bunch of icons to pick
and choose from. You simply set your desired characters and
stages on the menu screen pictured here. By pressing "CHAR
SELECT", you'll be able to cycle through a list of all
available choices - Including Giga Bowser.

Let
me first say that Goldeneye 007 is the most
mysterious video game ever. It's funny how the game can go
from entertainment purposes to "Sherlock Holmes"
purposes. I always use to look at Goldeneye as a popular N64
video game, but after reading into all these beta mysteries
and hidden levels I began going to your site as well as searching
through many other sites to get some answers. I began doing
my own research, though I'm not a hacker, I would play the
game and try to piece things together. I of course, got nowhere
(evidence-wise) but some of your theories have answered many
of my questions.
I have to ask you, Det... Over
the years many things have been somewhat solved such as "Ourmov's
Briefcase" "Oddjob and Mayday" even the "legendary"
Citadel level. I have to know, in your opinion do you think
there are many things in the game that are just waiting to
be unlocked, things that know one knows about? Do you think
we'll ever know for sure whether "Oddjob and Mayday"
are hiding somewhere behind a crate, or a gas tank, or maybe
there's an entirely new level waiting to be pieced together.
Your thoughts? Thanks.
My reaction to Goldeneye was the
same way. I think I played it for over a year, just for the
awesomely addictive Multiplayer mode and the challenge of
the missions... But discovering all of the mysteries that
are hidden beneath the surface brings a whole new twist to
the game.
I think we might have seen the end of landmark discoveries
in Goldeneye 007... But given the fact that both the Citadel
and the graphics from the "All Bonds" character
suits have recently been found, only Rareware knows what's
for sure what's still left to be found inside the game's memory.

Det,
do you base characters from Dexter Comics on real
people? Like your friends or maybe movie stars?
Although none of the characters are based
on specific people, I suppose the elements that make up each character
are based on countless words and actions that I've seen throughout
my life...
Each character also has a bit of myself in them as well.. Everything
from Dexter's negative attitude, Pete being a sucker for a cute
girl, Candi's drive to compete in sports, Marley's love of cookies
and snackable goods, Ned's distrusting nature, Mary Anne's grasp
of schoolwork, and even Skye's interests in artwork and animals...

Hi
Detstar
In F-Zero GX, in any
course that has a barrier and a jump (Mute City Serial Gaps is best)
you can drive onto the side barrier, 90 degrees to the floor. When
falling from a drop, angle the ship using the L and R buttons slightly
while landing on the barrier. The game will think the barrier is
the floor and attach to it. I have managed to do it on Big Blue
Ordeal. Unfortunately you can't do it for long because walls deplenish
your
health.
Craig
Left is down,
and up is right... Captain Falcon is doing some serious stunt driving
for sure. Thanks for sending.

make
the members only Goldeneye pages public! making
members only was a HUGE mistake.
I realize that lots of people want
to see the special content inside the Members section, and
believe that access should be free... But web hosting certainly
isn't free, and the bills have become rather expensive. So
instead of shutting the entire website down, I've kept all
the hundreds of original pages online where they're still
available to the public...
The bonus content that's found exclusively in the Members
section is a great way to say thank you to the fans who support
the website, and help keep it open.
If
and when the bills jump to the next level, the whole website
might be available to Members only. This whole setup is quite
costly, and the money needs to come from somewhere. If you
can think of a simpler solution, feel free to let me know.

Did
the things in Hellford high school (in Dexter Comics)
happen wherever it was that you went to school?
I can't really imagine a school that
doesn't have huge problems with vandalism, fighting, and fire...
And every school parking lot is a setting where many entertaining
incidents take place.

You
rock, I love your Goldeneye page, and I have a
question. Right after you start Statue and you go to the ending
gate how come you can hear the helicopter? |
That's
a good question. The helicopter doesn't show up until later,
yet we can hear it as soon as the mission begins. It's simply
a programming shortcut - The game loads the helicopter at the
same time it loads the Statue level. It simply stores the helicopter
outside of the normal boundaries where we can't see it... But
since the chopper sound effect wasn't disabled, you can still
hear it when you travel into its' range.
When using the Gameshark code for "No Endings in Levels",
you can actually walk right outside the gates at the beginning
of the mission, and find the helicopter and flight recorder
box tucked away in a corner. |

When someone asks you about yourself why
do you always give such mysterious responses?
P.S. Your site kicks more ass than any other site on the web!!!!!
I prefer to keep
a low profile, because I enjoy my privacy, and I like to remain anonymous
for undisclosed reasons. It's just nice to post articles and artwork
for the fun of it, and receive feedback. I hope that doesn't count
as a mysterious reply... |
In
the train mission of Goldeneye 007, how
do you get through the door behind Trevelyan and Xenia? |
To
get beyond the room where the two villains disappear,
you'll need Gameshark codes to walk through doors. After
going through a couple doors, you're secret sidequest
ends at a mysterious final door that has a view view of
the black sky.
It's even possible to get into the room with Trevelyan
and Xenia without a Gameshark... It's difficult to do,
and quickly strafing your way in before the door closes
seems like a good bet. If you manage to get inside, you
will of course be locked in. |

Hey
I was just wondering how old is Marley from the Dexter
Comics? I know he's alot older than Dexter
The old hippie
known only as Marley is somewhere in his early 20's. He's
the oldest student attending Hellford High School - Although,
he certainly doesn't have the best attendance record, and
the dude has failed more classes than he can remember.

Why do some people think just because
a game is old it automatically sux?
Today's new
games rather seductive... They offer amazing soundtracks and booming
sound effects, as well as mind-blowing graphics and movie scenes...
These games win over many new fans, while many of the older games
are forgotten.
Many new innovations have made yesterday's games obsolete. This is
true in many cases, but there are many special games that have become
true classics that will always have a strong fan following. I recently
told someone about the fun quest in Zelda: A Link to the Past
for the Super NES, and the automatic response was "But that game
is old, isn't?"
The graphics and overall presentation of older SNES and N64 games
are no match for are no match for the hot new games on the market...
Even though I enjoyed Wind Waker on the GameCube, I personally think
that older games like Ocarina of Time on the N64 were even better. |
Hey
Det, my friend and I were playing Goldeneye 007 a couple
of days ago and realized that if you play timed mines or remote mines
the AR33 actually has the picture of a KF7. Its weird if you look
at it it looks like the KF7 but if you pick it up it is clearly the
AR33.
Just a little
bit of a glitch in the game... Even though the weapon will be an AR33
when you pick it up, the game loads the image of the KF7 instead. |
