Mailbag
Ah, the joys of answering e-mail. Actually,
I wouldn't wish this task on my worst enemy. So many questions, so little
time... I do answer as many e-mails as I have time for though, and I've
posted a few of them below.

I
was reminiscing with my favorite game in the world, Goldeneye, and
remembered about the secret island in the dam level. When I did
a search, I came upon your site. But I was so intrigued, that I
spent 6 hours reading your entire site, and i hate reading! It totally
rocks!
To hell with school... Detstar is the new
way to get people to trick people into reading! There's a wealth
of information for sure, and I'm always getting comments about just
how much time visitors have spent browsing Goldeneye alone. With
all the time and effort that went into the Goldeneye site, it's
great to hear that so many people still enjoy visiting.

What's
all this stuff about a Tamagon trophy in Super Smash Bros Melee
that I've heard about? Is it real and how can I earn it?
The Tamagon trophy was removed from the American version of Melee.
Tamagon is a character from a Japanese game titled 'Demon World'.
The trophy was apparently removed because of the game's association
with devils and demons. This tiny little reference to demons hardly
seems like a worthwhile reason to remove the trophy... They should
have just made it difficult to earn, so none of the little kiddies
would have to see the word 'demon' on their screens.

My friend just got ahold of a Beta Goldeneye
cartridge, and I must say that it's the most awesome game I've ever played.
All Bonds, the citadel, the dam's island, it's all here my friend. The beta
version totally kicks ass. It's much better than the standard version that
you're stuck with. I bet you're so jealous right now, you can't even contain
yourself. Mwa ha ha!!!!!
If I didn't know better, I'd almost think you were lying...
Contrary to popular belief, there's no such thing as a 'beta version'...
That's just the nickname that's been used to describe the game before it
was released. While it's true that the game underwent many changes before
it was completed, any of these remaining 'versions' containing these 'beta'
elements would likely be kept under lock and key at Rareware. And if you
did somehow manage to get your paws on this stuff, it wouldn't even be playable
on your Nintendo 64. What, you think I somehow created this massive website
by being a total moron? Tsk tsk...

Dear
Detstar,
I was thrilled to see all the new F-Zero GX stuff recently
appearing! Does this mean that there's gonna be a F-Zero site?
F-Zero GX is among
the best games I've ever played, and there will definitely be many
more feature pages for it. It takes an unbelievable amount of time
to create a website devoted to covering an entire game. GX's future
here on Detstar is uncertain... I'm not saying yes, and I'm not
saying no either...

If
you got those Goldeneye 007 screenshots of the spy cameras
in the DAM level from another website, then they are fake. All they
are is a Covert Modem with a bullet hole shot in one side. Look
carefully or try it yourself on the game, i have.
I took the screenshots
myself, and I assure you that they aren't fakes. The item does look
a bit like the modem, but it's actually a new item called the 'Micro
Camera'. You can plant the camera on walls just like the Convert
Modem though. We can only guess as to what our spy could have used
these cameras for...

Hey I heard from a website that EA is making
another James Bond game and that it's going to be Goldeneye 2! Is
this true, and if so when will it be out?
I've heard this rumor, but so far there hasn't
been any real evidence that a 'Goldeneye' project is being developed by
EA. Currently they've got their hands full with their future title, Everything
or Nothing.
EA does have the Bond license, but lately they've been creating original
storylines instead of basing their games on Bond films. And besides, Rareware
already made Goldeneye... I can't see why EA would choose to create something
that's already been done.
I'd have to see a solid piece of proof before I even entertain this thought.
Sounds like yet another person has just fabricated some bogus information...
Thank you for finally updating your Goldeneye page! It's been my favorite part of your site since I first came there nearly a year ago. Although it was a small update, I hope it's a sign of things to come.
Yes, I do have plans for more Goldeneye updates
in the not-too-distant future. I've received countless requests to update
that website, and GE fans everywhere were happy to see new content added
there. It takes time to put together all these updates, so have patience...
I just have one quick question for you Det.
I want to know what your personal favorite game is. I'm only allowing you
to pick one!
Damn. It's just not fair to forced into choosing
a single game... Especially since my 'favorite' game often depends what
kind of mood I'm in at the time. I will however pick one of my favorite
games from each Nintendo system...
NES: Super Mario Bros 3
SNES: Super Mario Kart
N64: Goldeneye 007
GCN: Super Smash Bros Melee
