Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Month
of Madness...
The first month of winter has just begun, and I figure there's
still plenty of time to get that Christmas shoplifting done. And
with any luck, maybe some of you will even get to enjoy a few snow
days at home playing video games... An unexpected holiday can be
the best gift of all.
I think practically every Detstar game is covered in this edition
of the Mailbag. As always, I've done my best to answer some of your
questions in the format that I enjoy best... Fully illustrated with
lots of pretty colors.

In
the Nintendo Gallery spot from Zelda Wind Waker (in
Forest Haven), if you take a closer look at the stuff behind the
counter you'll find masks, (like the Keaton mask and I think the
All-Night mask) a Lon Lon milk bottle, some other interesting stuff
I probably forgot, and finally, on the left (i think) there is a
model that looks a lot like Saria's head. There's no details or
coloring, but the hairstyle looks like it. It looks like they took
the model of her head right out of Ocarina of Time
really. Go take a look. Use the telescope or something.
Some good
observations there from the secret carver's workshop outside of
Forest Haven. It's really cool that they threw in some tributes
to Ocarina of Time. As for the object in question that resembles
Saria's head, it's hard to tell for certain. I'm sure that some
keen visitors will be able to spot even more clues from this intriguing
scene.

I
love your Super Smash Bros. Melee site, and
I just recently got an Action Replay. Of course, I tried the
Debug Menu. I
was messing around, and found out that you can actually control
Master Hand and Crazy Hand! It's true! If you use a controller
in port 3 or 4, certain buttons combined with the D-pad can
actually let you command their attacks!
|
Attacks for Master
Hand:
D Pad Up + A = Flaming Twirl Finger of Doom
D Pad Right + A = Flying Punch
D Pad Down + A = Slam ground
D Pad Up + B = Laser
D Pad Right + B = Gun
D Pad Up + Z = Grab
D Pad Right + Z = Grab also
D Pad Left + R = Finger Jab
D Pad Right + R = Ground Punch
D Pad Down + R = Ground Slap
D Pad Up + R = Twirly Finger into ground
D Pad Up + L = Sweep
D Pad Down + L = Walk Attack |
That's
great stuff. With the vicious assaults that Master Hand delivers,
it's nice to be on the giving end for a change.
Several people had already contacted me, stating that these
monstrous hands could be controlled... But up until now, no
one has actually sent me an actual list of these moves.
Something I noticed while trying this stuff out, was that two
actual bullets fire out of Master Hands' fingers when he does
the gun attack. It happens so fast, that I always figured it
was just a burst of flames instead of actual bullets. |

You
may or may have not have noticed this in Goldeneye 007,
but if turn on the Gameshark codes for "no endings" and
"Leave body" codes in the surface (1st) after you jump
into the ventilation shaft,You cant walk anywhere accept where the
grating fell. And if you leave your body you are about 2 feet tall
and can barley see over the railing.
|
It
looks quite strange, that's for sure... But then again, Rareware never
planned on any of us actually getting down there to check it out.
It also gives them another reason to curse at "those bloody fools
with their Gamesharks". |

(In
Episode 100 of Dexter
Comics) I just noticed that world maps flipped the wrong
way... The continents are backwards.... whats up with that?
Things are always a bit messed up at Hellford
High School. The school budget only allows for shoddy supplies to
be purchased, leaving students to receive a second-rate education.
No wonder the kids at Hellford High don't learn nuthin...

I
noticed that DR.Clash's car had eyes painted in the front of his car
in F-Zero-X and now he doesnt have the eyes in F-Zero-GX.
|
That's
really strange. I wonder how such a cool little detail ended up being
removed from Clash's craft... I'm sure that it must have been unintentional,
because those eyes add a bit of character to a fairly simple machine.
Even as a background object in Super Smash Bros Melee, Dr. Clash's
car sports those eerie eyeballs. |

Your
website is amazing man im a big fan.. The Goldeneye
sections great.. its rare to find a website with so much information
on a older but.. incredible game. Good luck and great job.
A few years after the release of Goldeneye,
it was a bit disappointing that there were few places on the Internet
that had a decent amount of info for my favorite game... So, my
answer to this problem was to become the creator of such a place.
I never could have imagined how well the website would be received,
because somehow or other, I underestimated just how many hardcore
Goldeneye fans were lurking online, from all corners of the globe.

You do know that Perfect
Dark Zero has been released for the X-Box 360 platform,
right? No? Well, now you do. Yes? Then you should get to work.
It's up to you to obtain an X-Box 360 and Perfect Dark Zero.
I'll be in the shadows.
After creating one of the biggest
Perfect Dark sites on the net, I can see why many people seem
to expect me to instantly whip up a website for Perfect Dark
Zero... But I fail to see how it's my automatic responsibility
to do so.
Rareware's unacceptable behavior has left me to question why
any self-respecting citizen would support their company now.
After
years of silence, they suddenly announced their shady deal
to sell out to Microsoft. It took them over half a decade
to finally release Perfect Dark Zero, a game that should have
been on the market a long time ago. Sure, it was a good financial
decision to get into bed with the billionaires at Microsoft,
but they screwed their fans over bigtime.
They were originally going to release Perfect Dark Zero for
the Nintendo GameCube... After that, the game was going to
be available exclusively on the Microsoft X-Box. But in the
end, they finally released it for X-Box 360, which meant that
a hardcore Rareware fanatic may have bought as many as 3 entire
consoles before actually getting to touch this game. This
total lack of respect for their customers shows just how low
Rareware is willing to stoop to make a fortune. To hell with
them.

Hey
buddy, I have a question. You seem to know lots about Super
Smash Bros Melee, me and my friends play it too much,
haha, and there is an occasional weird movement in which Roy
or Marth are able to use a third jump. It doesnt happen very
often, I was wondering if you know how to do it.
By the way, who is your main
character?
|
There's
no such thing as too much Melee... Unless it causes you to flunk
out of school, or get fired from your job...
While using Marth or Roy, it's possible to use the B+forward
attack to gain a bit of horizontal distance... I'm not sure
if this is what you're referring to, but if I get knocked off
the edge of an arena, I jump, then hit B + left (or right) on
the joystick to stab forward, and get closer to the ledge before
I use B + up to launch myself back onto the platform.
As for my character of choice, I love the speed and power that
Roy brings to the table... But the character I'm most skilled
with is Link. At one point, I pondered whether to choose Link
or Roy to compete in a tournament... In the end, I decided that
Link is a more balanced character, and his defensive abilities
would give me more of an edge. That's just my personal preference,
and Roy would probably be a close second. |
I
thought it was interesting where you mentioned the opening roof in
the Silo mission of Goldeneye 007. Perhaps the roof
is originally open, with the rocket ready and primed for launch. Bond's
objective could have been to close the roof and stop the rocket from
launching.
Just a quick thought, love your site :)
That seems to
make a lot of sense... Many people believe that this bizarre opening
and closing of the roof meant that at some point during the game's
development, that one of 007's objectives was to launch a rocket...
However, that part didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. The act
of closing the roof to prevent the Russians from launching a rocket
seems much more fitting...
But because closing the doors is such simple task, Ourumov could simply
order his men open up the roof again. So maybe that's why this part
was scrapped. |
I have just one question.........WHEN
DO YOU ANSWER YOUR MAIL? Once a week, once a month, whenever you feel
like it, WHEN?
The answer to
that question, is that I reply to e-mail whenever I have time. Throughout
the week, I do check my mail to clear out the junk mail, and I usually
sort all of the good mail at the end of the week. Back in 1999, I
used to reply to everyone when I was still receiving a manageable
amount of mail. But as things stand right now, it's just not possible
for one person to cover it all. Of course, I could probably do it
if I worked on Detstar full time, instead of going to "work", to make
money so I can pay "bills".
I really appreciate all of the good things that people send in, so
feel free to keep sending questions, comments, and observations from
the games... But please don't take it personally if you don't receive
a reply.
It
has been forever since there has been any new pages for Mario
Kart Double Dash!!! it's a friggin' awesome game! what is
wrong with you? update!!!
While I agree that Double Dash is tons of
fun, I've barely had time to play the game since the summer. Although
there are planned pages for Double Dash in the works, the content
will only be created when I have time to do so.
That reminds me, I still have some unchecked lottery tickets. I won
a couple of bucks last week... But sadly, it's not enough to enjoy
a relaxing retirement just yet. |

The
guys already have a fishing net at home (in episode 77 of Dexter
Comics), so why did they go out and steal another fish net
from the store?
It was Marley who decided to swipe a net,
and he's not the brightest bulb in the box... When he had the opportunity
to shoplift something, he did... A big bulky fishing net isn't exactly
the easiest thing to conceal under your arm...

On
my version of GoldenEye I dont have Cradle or statue
on Multiplayer. I noticed this when i saw your page on Multi Maps.
Where the picture of Cradle is i have RANDOM and Library instead
of statue. Why dont i have cradle or statue? My version is from
UK and PAL Version
Although the image itself looks rather
convincing, it's not a real screenshot from inside the game... Just
something I created as a menu for the Goldeneye website.
The Statue and Cradle were both created for Multiplayer, when Rareware
was testing the levels to decide which ones should be kept for Multiplayer
selection. Although you can't play the Statue or Cradle when playing
the game normally, it is possible to have multiplayer deathmatches
in these two "special" arenas with Gameshark/Action Replay
codes.
