Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Thaw...
The holidays are completely over, and the return to work
and/or school has caused players to send slightly less mail this
month... It was still a lot to sift through, and I've posted some
of the most interesting messages. As always, plenty of Melee stuff,
and some things that take me back to the goold old days of Goldeneye
007. Someone also claims to have unlocked Crazy Hand in Melee...

In
the "Monster" trophy in Super Smash Bros Melee,
over the windshield it says Mario and Luigi, just thought You wanted
to know that!
Best wishes
Super smash Master
Yet another hidden detail to be found on one of the game's trophies.
The word "Nintendo" is also visible on the front of the
machine, and the rear license plate reads Nintendo.
Thanks for getting me to check this out. |
hi
first of all im a big fan of your website and everything i love all the
stuff on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and everything
the most tho
my friend showed me this video of a guy who runs thru the area51 level without
cheats (or so he says) and gets a fast time......well ok really fast time
i tried to beat it but cant even come CLOSE i keep dying in the first elevator.
There are some insane
videos out there where people have managed to snag incredibly fast times.
In one of these record setting runs, it's important to going about your
business as quickly and stealthily as possible to avoid as much confrontation
with your enemies as you can. Also learn how to maximize the strafe technique
to gain speed and dodge around enemy fire. If you don't get off to a good
start, it's often a good idea to restart the mission. A bit of luck can
help too, but practice makes perfect.

Hey i found this Super Smash Bros Melee stuff
today its really cool.
If you play on tiny melee and put the poison mushroom, Mew-Two's
charging B attack makes a full shield.
|
If
you zoom inside ganondorfs trophy, you can see the inside of
his mouth. (cause he opens it in his warlock punch) |
Mewtwo's
charging shadow ball is kinda cool, while the view from inside
Ganon's mouth is just plain weird... |

In
your January 15, 2006 Mailbag, you said that you hadn't seen the
message about 4,995 VS. Mode matches in Super Smash Bros Melee.
I thought that you had an Action Replay and could see all the special
messages. Does that mean that you also don't know about the special
messages for 10,000, 100,000, and 1,000,000 VS. Mode matches? I
had to find out about them from a friend.
Even though the Action Replay Debug Menu
gives you access to everything, somehow it never occurred to me
to go and check the special messages...
I figured that I had already seen them all, but they're definitely
worth noting. I wonder if there's anyone out there who has honestly
played a million matches...

Dear
Detstar,
Have you ever played Mission Impossible for
the N64? It's quite good. I think you should make a small
section on that. It's a great N64 classic.
I remember playing Mission Impossible
back when it was first released. Dropping
in through the ceiling and avoiding those laser beams is a
memorable moment, as was driving the gunboat. It
was a fun game, but I managed to beat it on both "Possible"
and "Impossible" difficulties over a weekend rental...
Typically the games that are featured on Detstar are ones
that take much longer to finish.

Hey,
I was playing Super Smash Bros Melee, and testing each
character out to see whether or not they could jump off of walls.
It turns out that in addition to Captain Falcon, Young Link and Samus
being able to jump off walls, Sheik, Falco, Mario, and Falco can too!
Wall-jumping
seems to be an ability that many of the agile characters seem to have.
The most surprising is Mario... He strikes me as a bit pudgy to be
able to hop off a wall like the others, but he does it anyway. |
I
was wondering how you were able to ask rare about all the Goldeneye
stuff. I would like to ask them myself to see if maybe i could
find out some stuff. Can you tell me how to contact them? Please
do this for me. Your site is awesome.
Thanks.
At one point in time, I was able to simply e-mail them and occasionally
get a response. Of course due to Rareware's immense popularity,
there's no way that they could have ever managed to reply to
everyone. But they did return a number of e-mails, some of which
were posted on the Goldeneye website. But times change, and
eventually they became sick of getting questions they'd rather
not answer. |

In
Super Smash Bros Melee, I seen the Goldeen
Pokémon cause damage. My friend and I were fighting
at Great Bay when she popped out in front of me and made a
slapping noise and my character flinched. I have never seen
it happen again but I won't worry about that Pokémon
anyway, it didn't seem to cause much damage.
A few people have reported seeing
the Goldeen occasionally knock off a bit of health, but no
one seems to know how it's done. One person said an attack
happened near water. I'm not sure if it's random, or whether
it's something you can control. Anyone?

Hey,
Det. Just a quick question - I've been browsing your site for
a while now (mostly the Goldeneye section), and
all the cool things you've managed to do with a Gameshark have
finally convinced me that I should also get one.
As for my question: do stores still carry these? Which stores?
And if they do (which I would assume at least some stores still
do), how much would they go for?
Thanks, man. Keep up the good
work.
That's
a good question... I got my Gameshark years ago, at Wal-Mart
I believe...
But now with the N64 being phased out, I'm honestly not sure
if you can buy them in stores anymore.
They are available
on e-Bay, and a few of them are advertised as new & unopened
for less than $10, which is a lot less than I paid for mine.
I'd definitely recommend getting a Gameshark PRO over a regular
Gameshark.
Just do a Video Games search for Gameshark 64.

Hey,
DetErest, what's your favorite game out of Perfect Dark, Goldeneye:007,
Mario Kart: Double Dash, F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda:The
Wind Waker, and Super Smash Bros. Melee?
It's not really fair to compare games
on the N64 with ones on the GameCube... For the GCN, my pick
would have to go to Super Smash Bros Melee... So many modes,
and such a big game in terms of all the stuff you can unlock. |
My
favorite N64 game would undoubtedly be Goldeneye 007. Many hours
of hacking the game provided endless fun, as did many late nights
of Multiplayer deathmatches. Perfect Dark surpassed Goldeneye
with graphics, but the core gameplay of Goldeneye rocks. |
|
|
When
you said that a (Mario Kart Double Dash) character
in the crowd in Waluigi stadium looks like big bird, it is a hammer
bro. without the hammer. Look closely and you'll see the helmet
that they're always wearing. Do time trial or something, look hard
and you'll see that Im not lying.
|
In
this never ending debate (of the character in the front row, second
from the left), you make a good point. I can actually see a bit of
a resemblance to a Hammer Brother from Mario Bros 3. It explains the
skintone, as well as the strange shape of the head that could be caused
by a helmet. |
|
(from
Super Smash Bros Melee) pics from my screen and crazy
hand. you wont believe me, but i did get him. how to get him is
beat event 50 with every character once.

Wow,
that's amazing... It's a complete lie, but
that first screenshot looks SO convincing... If it wasn't for that
minor flaw on the far right finger, it would be totally believable.
Your claim is quickly dissolved with that text screenshot though...
Not a single capital letter, and the original text was obviously
rubbed out.
It looks like you put a lot of effort into faking the first screenshot,
and then quickly rushed to finish the second one. Patience is a
virtue. Don't join the dark side just yet... You have much to learn.
