Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Lousy Smarch Weather...
Although some enthusiasts are likely to tumble down the icy mountain one last time, cold and sloppy weather is more suitable for playing video games than outdoor sports...
If you have a question or comment about the website, or want to mention something that you've never seen posted anywhere, feel free to send mail to:

I submitted a few Super Smash Bros Melee snapshots and you attributed them to the debug menu, but they're in fact caused by a bug with the Action Replay code "Ganondorf has Sword" in camera mode.

It's difficult to recreate, and is somewhat random... You go into cameramode with the code on, and take a few pictures, and it will RANDOMLY glitch up

-Andydark

I've tried a few times, but was unsuccessful in duplicating this glitch...
Has anyone out there had this happen on their game?
I have version 1.1 of the game, and it's reportedly been done on version 1.2.

Dear Det, After going to Wikipedia I found DetStar on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detstar.

I never would have imagined that Detstar could be featured in an encyclopedia...
Those moments of fame appear to have been limited, as if the page has since been deleted by the editors.

It might just be me, but I really think Nintendo needs to give more character and history to Omni Link and Dark Link. I think Dark Link should have his own game. It would also allow Nintendo to give the Zelda franchise a dark twist. I'm really only toying with the idea of this but I think there are so many possibilities for story line. Dark Link could be the right hand man of Ganondorf, or be a competing rival.

Dark Link is a pretty cool concept, and his mysterious appears for a duel in Zelda's Water Temple was one of the most memorable moments of Ocarina of Time. I thought it was really cool when Nintendo included this shadowy figure in one of Melee's event matches.

Do you think Goldeneye will ever be reintroduced or remade? Not some
stupid game like Goldeneye Rogue Agent. Thanks.

It's obviously that Goldeneye Rogue Agent was designed to leech off the success of the legendary Goldeneye 007... But even shiny new graphics aren't enough to outlive the rock-solid gameplay value of Goldeneye 007.

At one point in time, I believed it would be an excellent idea to remake Goldeneye 007, with all kinds of extras that the technology wouldn't have allowed in 1997. But in reality, it would only be successful if the original Goldeneye team worked on such a project... And the odds of that happening are slim to none.

I happened to be reading some webpages about various animals when I came across something called a Pika.
It's a rodent-like animal that is a cousin of the rabbit. The animal looks a lot like Pikachu, so I assumed that's where his name came from. They live in generally cool climates like North America, Asia and eastern Europe.
Well I'll be damned... Yet another example of art imitating life.
It's often hard to trace the creative thought process, but It seems very likely that this little critter was the inspiration behind Pikachu... I figured that Pikachu was just something that they came up with when they were high on super mushrooms.

I wanna see Candi naked!

So would Pete... But it's probably not going to happen.
A comment like that in Candi's presence would probably get you kicked in the head. The sexy star of the Hellford girls' soccer team dazzles fans with her moves both on and off the field. She loves to win, and loves to score.

Hey Det, you know that odd vs. message you get the one thats about a cent per bout in Super Smash Bros Melee? I figured out what it means. That the price of the game. $49.95 is 4995 cents. It all seems so clear now...

That certainly explains the odd number among those even-thousand milestones. Good observation.

At 4995 cents, Super Smash Bros Melee is one of the few games that you'll play that's actually worth the price of admission.

First off, I want to say great site Det!
I was looking at your Goldeneye beta version section, and read about how you receive that package from Doak. You mentioned how you get knives, a sniper rifle and mines. Well I was reading my Goldeneye Strat Guide and I came upon this quote.
"You won't have the luxury of using the sniper rifle in this part of the level"
Perhaps this is another clue to the mystery. Maybe the sniper rifle did once play a role in the facility.
This mysterious code reactivates part of a "deleted scene", that's for sure.
The fact that Nintendo makes reference to it in one of their guides is even more interesting... They always write the guides as the games are being made, and slight changes often occur.

I've decided to send this e-mail because I want to say... Detstar is the best site about Super Smash Bros Melee and other games that I have even seen before! Very good job. But I want to say one thing more... Why Fox is described like one that have the lowest jump?! C'mon! Fox's jump is a great one, and can be done in all 8 directions.

Even though Fox has an impressive triple jump, the triple jumps were not factored into overall jumping ability. The reason being that some characters do not possess a triple jump, and I wanted the ratings to be fair... Of course, only taking double jumps into consideration makes an unfair rating for characters who have a good triple jump.

Nice site!
I just found out about how you don't use a Gameshark on Perfect Dark! And why? 'cuz your lazy! What about the codes I e-mailed you about? Beta weapons, Lost skedar level, and beta music! I showed you them because I wanted to know if they work and if the discoveries are important...

It's less about being lazy, and more about a lack of free time....
It takes time to test out codes, and Gamesharking with Perfect Dark is really inconvenient. (Not owning the required Gameshark version 3.3 is an additional problem.) It's also kinda f
unny that you don't seem interested in trying any of these mysterious codes on your game.

On Super Smash Bros Melee I wonder how do you get the bubble mode and I have an Action Replay and debug menu but no bubble mode.

Before you begin a match with the Action Replay debug code, you need to set the DB Level to "Develop".

Once you're playing, simply hold the R-Button, and press up on the control pad to cycle through the various character collision bubbles.

Hey, DetErest, what exactly does the "N" in GCN stand for? I think I know what the GC is for, but the N stumps me.

The "N" stands for Nintendo...
Since it's the "Nintendo GameCube", it would have made more sense to call it the NGC instead of GCN... But apparently since those initials belonged to another organization or product, Nintendo had to change the name to GCN.

I was looking on the Internet at some cheats when I noticed that someone said they unlocked an arena called Dragon Temple for Super Smash Bros Melee by using Marth and Roy. I also saw that someone on a forum asked about Dragon Temple music. Is this true? If it is can you e-mail me back and tell me?

The Dragon Temple is a rumored level in Super Smash Bros Melee, but there is no evidence to prove that it even exists. It may have been intended at one time, but it was never included in the final game.

There is a Fire Emblem reference in the memory, but the game freezes when you try to load that stage.

In Super Smash Bros Melee, the license plate text says ONETT TAXI.
-darkclaw

Thanks to an alternative camera angle, I was able to freeze-frame a shot of the Onett Taxi as it zips by.
