Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Special Edition: F-Zero GX
Finally, an entire Mailbag dedicated to the fastest racing
game in the universe. I spent many hours blasting through this futuristic
joyride, and found lots of cool stuff along the way... But as always,
people who visit the website are always able to offer some extra
thoughts on every game. If you've got something to share or a question
about F-Zero GX or any other game, just drop me a line:

|
Here's
something interesting I'd noticed on F-Zero that I didn't find on
your site.
Chapter seven I believe it is. The
F-Zero grand prix. During the video there are about five people
ahead of you and shadow, and you are both placed right behind the
finish line. BUT!!!!! When you start the race you are in 28th
place and as far from the line as that position can get you.
Well I'll be damned... Captain Falcon is
clearly near the start of the pack, but he strangely gets bumped
back to the rear before the race begins... The odds always seem
to be stacked in the CPU's favor, but now we even have evidence
that they're jerking us around...

Hey,
I was just reading the F-Zero GX section on your site, and noticed
your tactic for finding out the top speeds of the machines. You
say you used Cosmo Terminal? I have a better idea. There's a glitch
in the game that allows you to hit max speed without having to go
anywhere. In Fire Field: Cylinder Knot, Go out onto the track to
about the first boost, then drive around to the bottom of the track.
Turn around and drive as straight as possible into the wall (towards
the starting line). You see, the game doesn't treat it as an actual
wall. You don't move forward when you drive up against it, but unlike
the other walls in the game, you don't recoil. Your speedometer
will continue to climb, as if you're moving. I found this out while
I was seeing which courses it was possible to complete an entire
lap backwards in. There aren't many. ;)
|
|
That's
a neat little trick... The hardest part is keeping your machine
pointed straight at the wall, because you'll slid horizontally if
you're even slightly off.
When I tested this
with the Night Thunder machine, I maxed out at 1008
km/h... When testing on Cosmo Terminal, I hit 1016 km/h... Of course,
the slightest slope on Cosmo Terminal could cause a slight increase
in speed. It's a tricky stat to test, that's for sure. |
Greetings, Mr. DetErest
Your extensive section on F-Zero GX
of your website is pretty darn impressive. One thing I didn't see,
though...I could swear I read Mrs. Arrow's real name (Monique Dever-something)
once. On Nintendo's official website, back in the F-Zero X days,
unfortunately; the new website for GX makes no mention of it. Am
I just crazy or is that her real moniker, anyway?
Thanks for your time, man...and especially the tips on beating
Master difficulty settings in GX! Man, that is TOUGH!!!
I did some
digging, and the name Monique LAmoreaux Arrow is the name
that I've come up with. A rather interesting fact, but also obscure
bit of F-Zero trivia...
Saying that GX's Master difficulty is tough is an understatement...
Insane would be a more fitting description. But after tons of practice
and dozens of failed attempts, you gain the skills needed to blast
your way to the finish line.
The GX pages offer two completely different techniques... The overly-aggressive
driving style of yours truly, along with the skilled strategies
employed by Hutz. The tactics written by Hutz are probably the most
reliable, while my daredevil strategies are reckless and dangerous...

|
if
you press z button in results in a race in F-Zero GX you can see
the pilot's face.
I've owned this game for years, yet somehow
I never knew about this little trick.
Seeing this visual picture of your rivals could help build up the
anger and rage necessary to burn them on the next course....

I
dont know if its just coincidence, but all F-ZERO
GX cups are named after Pokemon versions, including the upcoming
Pokemon Diamond for the DS.
Although I've never noticed this
until you pointed it out, I don't think it's a coincidence...
I'm sure that the names were inspired from Pokémon.
In F-Zero X for the SNES, the cups were named after playing
cards... The Jack, Queen, King and Joker Cups.

Hey
Det. I was just browsing around on wikipedia.com and I came across
the bios off al the F-Zero GX racers, and it had a bit of info on
some racers I didn't know like the Mighty Gazelle's name being "Clinton
Gazelle" and Captain Falcon's full name being "Captain Douglas
Jay Falcon". The Skull's name being "Sterling LaVaughn".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GX_Pilots
The Mighty Gazelle
and The Skull are rather interesting characters, considering that
both of these drivers have long since passed away... Through science
and black magic, both of these figures have returned to race... Except
now they're no longer human.
I wasn't aware that Captain Falcon had an official name... I wonder
if the writer of an article got Falcon's name from an official source. |
Hey, names ghostly and I found something
about F-ZERO-GX...If you put three certain pieces together, you get
a racer called 'Blue Hedgehog' (Boost: A Body: E Grip: E)
This is the first
time I've heard of such a machine... Somehow, I think I would have
heard about this custom racer if this was a true story... Quite suspicious
that you didn't list which parts are used to build this craft... |
Here
is something I noticed From GX
Captain Falcon's Face. You don't
get to see his face in the whole game. Only after finishing
Chapter 9 you see the back of falcons head (dark-brown hair
if I remember correctly). Well it seems, that the game holds
falcon's face as a secret, not showing you what it does look
like. But actually this isn't a secret, because, you can see
his face in the previous Game F-Zero X on the N64 system when
you become champion in master class. There you can see his
face, and I gotta say, he really looks like Pierce Brosnan
o.Ô
Falcon
is a mysterious character, as are many of the other personalities
in F-Zero. Having never completed the N64 game, I haven't had
a chance to see his face there.... This screenshot is about
the best possible glimpse that we're given in F-Zero GX.. |
|
Just
wanted to point out that in F-Zero GX, sega hid a little easter
egg in, or nintendo hid it because sega helped out.
The "little UFO's" that rescue you from certain
doom on the courses are piloted by none other than Sega's
own Chao. Chao are the cuddle little critters from the Sonic
Adventure games that are in a virtual pet-type minigame.
Well yeah, its hard to see, but it helps to fall from a very
high distance, but as the UFO spins, you can get a good look
at the Pilots, the small blue teardrop shaped heads of chao
can be seen.
|
This
is something that I had once heard about, but hadn't managed
to see for myself. I just happened to be lucky enough to snap
this screenshot where you can clearly see the little guys. |

I
got a few Interesting stuff. If Roger Buster hit a house in
his video should he lose his Drivers License?
If Draq was playing F-Zero GX in his video this must mean
F-Zero GX exists in F-Zero GX ^^.
Although Roger got into a nasty crash,
he'd only lose his license if the police found out....
And F-Zero GX exists inside F-Zero GX... You just totally
blew my mind, man.

Just
wanted to submit a comment on your F-Zero site, which I thought was very
entertaining and ambitious! Really fun to see projects like the maximum
speed and to see some different machines. I am personally in love with the
game at this moment and its fun to see a site which seems to enjoy it as
much as I am!
F-Zero GX provided me with
hours of challenging entertainment. There are so many different areas in
the game that it still stays fresh and fun.
The "Max Speed" project just kind of happened one afternoon, out
of simple curiousity... As I was testing out various machines for fun, I
figured that other people would also be interested in seeing the results
of these crazy tests of pushing a machine to the limit. |
