Mailbag

Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Slow But Steady...
The wonderful weather is here, but the webmaster is feeling under the weather. Despite feeling like crap, I somehow found the energy to tackle my mailbox, and put together another edition of the Mailbag. If you've got something to say or something to share, you know where to send it:

Here's some neat hoaxes of Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

This game won't e released until next year, and we already have some controversial screenshots floating around the Internet...

Despite the disclaimer, some people will surely believe that these screenshots are real... It's all in learning how to read the text that goes beside all these pretty pictures.

This website is so much fun... I love it!

for SSBM why dont you do a character rating poll to see who is the top rated super smash bros melee character please write back.

A few years ago, an anonymous poll was featured on the SSBM website, and Mario was the hands down winner... Other honorable mentions included Marth & Roy, Yoshi, Bowser, and Link...

Other places on the web seem to rank Mario and Link as the fan favorites. It might be interesting to conduct a more scientific poll sometime in the near future, just to see if people's favorites have changed.

Dear DetStar,

I saw the promotion for the upcoming comic adventure, "AGENT MARLEY". I was just wondering; shouldn't Dexter have a ray gun, instead of an Uzi? He is an alien, after all.

Although most extra-terrestrials would likely be equipped with some sort of mega death ray, Dexter has been stranded on this planet for as long as he can remember. He grew up with primitive Earth weapons, and has learned to be rather deadly while using them

Remember the mailbag in May 15 that there were a bunch of F-Zero GX stuff? When I came across the critters driving the UFOs that save you they are not really Chaos at all. If you Observe closely they have VERY tiny legs and Chaos don't have legs. Here is an even closer screenshot of it.

Very interesting indeed... I'm not sure how you managed to get such a close screenshot, but it's still hard to tell exactly who these little blue critters are. They look as much like aliens as they look like elves...

Can you show some pictures of the Gameshark for N64 and the Action Replay for the GameCube?

No problem.
A Gameshark is a cartridge that you plug your games into. These two 'stacked' cartridges then slide into your Nintendo 64 system, giving you the ability to manipulate the memory as you see fit.

For Action Replay, it's a disc plus a memory card. The Action Replay memory card goes into slot #2, and the Action Replay disc goes in your GameCube. Enter the codes you want, and once finished, you'll be prompted to swap the Action Replay disc for your game disc (Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc).

Are you going to create a section for the upcoming Super Smash Bros Brawl game on Nintendo Wii?

I'd hate to think of how much more expensive it would be to run another gamesite... But covering Super Smash Bros Brawl seems too tempting to resist. My mind will probably subconsciously put together a dozen webpages after I've played the game for one day...

If only someone would send me a copy of the game as soon as its released... That way, I wouldn't have to spend valuable hosting money purchasing my own copy. (Ha! One can only hope.)

I'd like to see more sexy pictures of Candi Skyler.
You would, huh? Well, ok. You twisted my arm. Enjoy a few snapshots of Candi in the Mars Prison battleground.

Coincidentally, Candi Skyler shares a name with another blonde bombshell... Candi Skyler is good with guns, while Candi from Dexter Comics uses her guns to get what she wants.

I love ur site but I'd really like it if u had a search engine

I've had plenty of requests to add a search engine... There are so many pages on Detstar, that even I have to sometimes use Google to locate specific articles that I've written years ago.

Although I don't have any plans of incorporating a search bar, there's a nifty trick to ensure that Google will only search Detstar pages...

For example, if you were searching for information on Xenia Onatopp, this is what you would type into Google:
xenia onatopp site:detstar.com

Likewise for a search on Bowser:
bowser site:detstar.com

The string of words looks a bit strange, but you can't argue with results.
This will give you anything and everything that Detstar has to offer for any given topic. Hope this helps.
Just remember...
site:detstar.com

You said you sent an inquiry to FreeRadical to be their webmaster, but wouldn't it be kind of hard and tiresome to run 2 sites?

If I worked for Free Radical, I wouldn't need to have a "real" job, which would make it easier to do stuff for Detstar. It would still be tons of work - But working on a video game company's website while running Detstar could produce some interesting results.

Nothing like this could ever happen though... Only an adventurous company would take a chance on a good for nothing, punk-assed webmaster who's been running his own site for 7 years.

I was reading your latest mailbag and noticed the N64 controllers email. I was at a McDonalds the other day and happened to take a picture of one of the N64 controllers hooked up there because it was funny. I have attached the picture and I think you will understand why it is funny.

I wonder if the person broke it out of frustration while attempting the Master difficulty on F-Zero GX....

Still though, I wouldn't touch one of those things with a ten foot pole... Using a public controller is about as safe as eating a happy meal off the floor.

Make DetStar a 5 dollar a year payment. please and thank you

Although the entrance fee for the Members area is $10 for one year, consider this... None of the accounts have been closed yet.. So anyone who paid for a Membership in 2004 still has access, as a thank you for supporting the website...

If you're willing to pay $5, what's wrong with $10? I assure you that it's a lot less than the monthly hosting bill for this elaborate setup. The time is coming when all of the best stuff will be for Members only... But the first group of members will be rewarded with a bonus year.

Some people have chosen to label me as cheap and selfish for offering member content as a reward for the people who help pay for the website... But if I were truly cheap and selfish, I would have closed this whole website years ago.

Dear Detstar, I have a question, how did you hear about the beta version (of Goldeneye 007)?

Through the wonders of the Internet... I had seen pictures in gaming magazines that didn't quite match up to how it looked in the finished game, as well as the snapshots on the back of the box... Then there were all the unexplained mysteries about the game...

But Rareware even had "beta" screenshots on their website, and it became clear that many changes were made before the game was finished... This intriguing aspect of 007 made the game even more addictive.
