Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, than this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Bench-Clearing
Brawl...
The next installment in the Super Smash Bros series appears
to be shaping up nicely... Just check out the amazing detail on
Wario, as well as the castle background in the screenshot below.
If you have something to discuss about this game, just drop me a

Super
Smash Brothers Brawl looks incredible. The new music will
be Latin! In opera (I know it sounds weird, but the music is good)!
It shows 5 new characters, and a movie with all the characters (Meta
Knight, Pit, Zero Suit Samus, Wario, and some Japanese guy named
Snake). The characters look even cooler, especially Link. He looks
like he went to a graphics beauty parlor or something!
|
Graphics
beauty parlor... That's a new one. The Hylian warrior certainly looks
more heroic than he ever has in the past. I'm just glad they chose
not to use the cel shaded Link they created for Zelda Wind Waker... |
Hey, I've seen screen shots of Peach
and Zelda in Super Smash Bros Melee without parts
of their dresses, and I'm confused! I have an action replay with
the debug cheats on it. But, I don't know how to make parts of the
dresses disappear. Could you give me some info on it?
It's
something that can be accessed by using the
SSBM Debug Menu. Whenever you begin a match, they'll be wearing
their usual dresses, but if you press up on the control pad (for
a taunt), part of their clothing disappears... Perform another taunt,
and their clothes re-appear.
This neat little part of the debug menu was likely for testing purposes,
to make sure that the legs moved naturally as each character walks
or runs across the screen... (It might also have been used to distract
a male opponent before delivering a vicious smash attack.)

In
the frigate level in Goldeneye 007, what is the gameshark
code to make the helicopter crash into the ship?
As is the case
with most pretend "beta" screenshots, things aren't exactly
what they seem to be... I was experimenting with co-ordinates of the
helicopter, trying to get it positioned away from the ship, and hovering
above the water...
While I wasn't able to accomplish that feat, I did manage to move
the helicopter inside the cabin. It looked kinda cool, so I threw
a remote mine up there. When I blasted it with my assault rifle, it
created a cool explosion for this screenshot. |

Hi
Dets, I need help with event match 50 in Super Smash Bros.
Melee. I've tried all 25 characters, but I can't kill crazy
hand or master hand and it's driving me crazy! Which hand should
I kill first? crazy or master? Ganondorf doesn't work well for me.
Ganon feels weird and slow until you're
used to his style, but with his devastating smash up attack, he
seems to be the best overall. Another good choice is DK with his
B+up slapping move which scores lots of damage.
I personally take out Master Hand first, because I'm more familiar
with his attack patterns.
Because of the difficulty of this match, I've put together a fully
illustrated walkthru for defeating Master Hand & Crazy Hand
inside the Detstar Member Section.

i
think u should add pictures of Cyborg Chimp and Brains the
monkey from Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

Enjoy
the up-close and personal snapshot of Cyborg Chimp, as well
as a view of the ultra-creepy looking monkey named Brains. |

In
Super Smash Bros Melee when Luigi does his Green
missile (B + forward), you normally have to charge this
move up. I have tested this move out on the Training mode, and if
you pull it off right, it will do more damage than normal. You tap
the Control stick to one side very fast and press B at the exact
same time. If done correctly, without charging up, Luigi will spurt
into a burst of flame, fly across the battle Arena and cause immense
damage, sending his enemies flying. In Training, I caused up to
40% damage with this at one time, although 25%-30% was the average
amount. It is not wise to try it on a small arena, as Luigi may
fly off the Arena.
It's really interesting that you should bring this up...
Nintendo officially states that it's a random occurrence that happens
1 out of every 8 times... But somehow or other, during a crucial
point in a match when I need to KO an enemy, I've been able to pull
off this attack in a tight situation. So is it random? Or is there
a knack to doing it?
I agree with the quick movement of the control stick, without charging... Because whenever I pull it off, that's the way it happens.
When the move is charged, it doesn't seem to happen as often. Although it doesn't seem random, I certainly can't pull it off all at will...
But pulling off this deadly attack correctly could simply be the same as randomly being awarded...
Perhaps by posting this on the website, someone might be able to offer some extra insight.

Scene
003 of Agent Marley: Royal Casino Palace was
cool. I like how you put Scaramanga and his golden gun, and
Blofeld in there. Anyway though I could've sworn I saw Oddjob
at the table but I didn't see Boba Fett... Anyway good job
on Royal Casino Palace.
In addition to the story's twisted
humor, I'm also rather fond of the background scenes featured
in Agent Marley.
A mysterious bounty hunter resembling Boba Fett is visible
playing cards, right behind a man betting a golden weapon,
and a dude with a bowler hat...

Dear
Detstar.
How do you feel about Solid Snake being in Super Smash Bros.
Brawl?
He'll be an interesting
addition, that's for sure. One issue the developers are working through
is the fact that he won't be able to use guns to kill people... In
reality, that's what would happen. But I believe they're planning
on having him use explosives, possibly similar to Samus Aran.
I'm kinda old fashioned... I would have preferred a classic Nintendo
character who's never been featured before, like MagiKoopa... Although
he was cut from Mario Kart 64, the repertoire of attacks for a magician
would be limited only by the imagination. |
Perfect
Dark is totally new for me. I don't have an expansion
pack and seem to only be able to do challenges and fight simulants
in the quick menu. How can I buy and expansion pack - and do
they cost a lot of money? I don't even have the game's instruction
booklet so I am literally in "the dark". Can you advise
me? I'd be very grateful.
Finally, in Goldeneye 007, I am doing very well
and only have "00 Agent level" to complete for Cradle.
I cannot seem to shoot Janus/Trevelyan when he has run down
to the final circular ledge. Every time I get there - he blasts
me! So close yet so far. Without this I can't start Egyptian!
Any suggestions how to do it? |
I was lucky... I got my N64 Expansion Pak free with Donkey Kong
64. (Although the Expansion Pak proved to be more useful than
the game itself)
With the N64's popularity being overshadowed by the GameCube
and the upcoming Nintendo Wii, it could be tricky to find an
Expansion Pak for sale in a store. Not
everyone's comfortable buying stuff online just yet, but tons
of Expansion Paks can be found on EBay. Just search for "nintendo
64 expansion pak", and you'll find a bunch of them for
under $10. Some of them are being sold with games, but there
are other deals for just the Expansion Pak itself.
In
Goldeneye's the final battle with Trevelyan, he certainly
has the edge... He's already in position, waiting for you
to drop in so he can waste you. Right before I jump down,
I take a peek to see exactly where Trevelyan is. As I fall,
Trevelyan often moves around, and it's good to know exactly
where he is. There's no time to waste. As soon as you land,
you're in season. With a pair of ZMGs and and itchy trigger
finger, I quickly sidestep around him, because he'll often
aim where you were standing. If you can manage to get slightly
to his side, you can take him out. Don't worry about scoring
a fatal headshot... With the Fast Firing ZMGs, you can easily
pump him full of lead.

Do
you know if Marth is going to be in the new Smash Brothers
Brawl?
Love the agent marley movie. good work!
Judging by the incredible popularity of Marth & Roy, they'd
be foolish not to include these two swordsmen in the next Smash
Bros game. Although, stranger things have happened.
As for Agent Marley, glad to hear you've enjoyed it so far.
The best scenes are yet to come... |
Do
you like Timesplitters 2 ???...
I also do, but why do you say that it is a copy of Goldeneye???
A real Timesplitters fan would not say such a thing
I never said that TimeSplitters was a copy of Goldeneye... Just
that the games are quite similar. But that's a good thing. There
are many James Bond video games on the market that have tried
to replicate Goldeneye's success... But none of these pretenders
have even managed to come close to being as good as TimeSplitters
2 & TimeSplitters Future Perfect...
My point was that TimeSplitters is the modern-day version of
Goldeneye 007, one of the best games ever. TimeSplitters managed
to maintain the same feel and entertainment value that Goldeneye
007 fans loved. It's certainly no coincidence, because Rareware
may have sold out, but many of the key staff members responsible
for Goldeneye 007 have moved to Free Radical Design. And these
same guys formed the team that delivered the awesome new TimeSplitters
games. |
About
your character descriptions for Royal Casino Palace.
Wouldn't it be a little more suitable for the lady in red to
be Skye instead of Candi? In her description it says "she
has her eyes on Agent Marley." I thought Skye and Marley
were in love with each other... Not Candi and Marley. Then again
Skye wouldn't look near as sexy as Candi does in that Red Dress.
"Skye wouldn't
look near as sexy as Candi does in that Red Dress..."
That was definitely a major factor in the casting... But there's
also a crucial element of the story that has yet to take place,
where Skye couldn't possibly play the role of the lady in red...
I certainly haven't forgotten about the girl that Marley loves...
When Marley meets Candi, he even mentions that he already has
a girlfriend. And I do have plans in the works that include
Skye in a possible sequel to Royal Casino Palace...

Hello,
DetErest. Back when the forums were up, i was a regular user. I loved
the forums. Why dont you bring
the back? But make it so the first people who joined before would
be able to use them. Just a thought.
The Detstar Forums
database was shut down by the hosting company because of excessive
traffic. A previous hosting company even kicked Detstar out because
the heavy usage of the forums managed to burn out a CPU on the server.
These facts are a testament to the incredible popularity of the Forums,
and I'm sure that many people would love to see the messageboard re-opened.
But a more elaborate hosting setup would be required... And I just
don't have that kind of cash.
I suppose I could bring back the forums and ban everyone but 20 people...
But there's no fun in that. Discussions of the Forums should be open
to anyone and everyone. |
