Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, then this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Time
of the Month...
As the end of the month draws near, over-eager Police Officers
are frantically trying to use up their big stacks of tickets...
I was unlucky enough to get busted for driving a measly 9 MPH
over the speed limit. While the cop was busy dealing with my "attitude
problem", somebody got robbed, somebody else got stabbed, and
some poor girl got raped... And he's wasting time giving me a ticket.
What a jackass. I'll be seeing him in hell.... And I'm bringing
a bat with a nail in it.
Onto the mailbag.... I've been I've been thinking about how James
Bond evaded the cops in The Living Daylights... I've also been admiring
the blaster cannon that Samus is armed with- I've been thinking
about mounting a similar cannon onto the bumper of my car.
If you have anything to say about the games featured here, or have
recently been charged with a traffic offense, send your letters

Hi,
I was just reading the Samus Strategies (in Super Smash Bros
Melee), and being a Samus fan (my 2nd best character, Luigi
is my best), I wanted to also point out that she has the fastest
item swing out of the 25. Meaning she can swing Swinging items faster
than anyone else. Did somebody just say HR Bat? (I mean, OK, against
decent SSBM players it won't work that easily, but hey, it's still
handy!)
Another thing is that I consider Samus to be one of the best offensive
characters, because all her A attacks are moderate to decent, and
once you've caused enough damage you simply need to catch the opponent
off-guard and fire a fully-charged Beam right in their face. Sounds
predictable, but it works on soooooo many people.
Samus is
a good swinger, especially with the beam sword. She's a well balanced
and powerful fighter, that's for sure. In my opinion, she's among
the best all-round combatants, with the others being Mario/Luigi,
and Link. They all have a good combination of offensive and defensive
abilities.

Hey det. Great site.
I was wondering, being a huge Bond fan, which bond movie do you
think would make an awesome game? You can't say any movie that's
already been made into a game.
Myself, depending on how its put together, The Living Daylights
(Dalton) would be cool. Also, I have a question about The World
is Not Enough. What was the whole problem with that compared to
Goldeneye? Ive played TWINE, but not Goldeneye, and besides, I think
that TWINE had a better story (in the film). What was wrong with
the video game?
I'd definitely agree with turning The
Living Daylights into a game. Many people hated the film, but
I personally think it was pretty cool... Agent 007 narrowly escapes
death, only to parachute onto a luxurious yacht which just happens
to be where a beautiful girl is sunbathing. After a cool intro,
the story immediately shifts to a sniper mission. And it's impossible
to forget the crooked! (and hilarious) General Whitaker, who coincidentally
played "Jack Wade" years later in GoldenEye. It's a great
movie, but it would be quite a challenge to turn The Living Daylights
into a successful game.
Another choice might be The Spy Who Loved Me. It involves
the typical James Bond plot with an evil villain hell-bent on destroying
the world... The daring female Agent Triple X is an awesome rival/partner
for 007.
If you haven't played
Goldeneye 007, then you're definitely missing out. The release of
the TWINE video game was met with disappointment by most of the
people who had enjoyed Goldeneye. They were expecting something
amazing with TWINE, but the game just didn't quite workout. While
TWINE had better graphics, the solo missions and multiplayer weren't
nearly as addictive as in Goldeneye...
Goldeneye was made by Rareware, back in the days when they knew
what they were doing. After Rareware no longer expressed an interest
in continuing the Bond saga, Electronic Arts jumped at the chance.
EA was just getting warmed up with TWINE, and have since released
more impressive titles with Nightfire and Everything or
Nothing. Blog This

Hi
det, I was wondering if after you get the nintendo wii (hehe) will
you still work on the gamecube version of Super Smash Bros
on this site because I'm only ten and I might not have the money for
the system AND the new ssbm game
Whenever cool
stuff is found for Melee, I'll still post it. So when you find something
new, you gotta send it in. But because there's bound to be an abundance
of things to cover in BRAWL, I expect to find myself working on updates
for that game. |

Hey
Det, I was just curious about the newest mailbag. It said you were
going to create some more Dexter Characters like Sgt. Smokes and
Cherry Hill. Can you tell me when We'll see them in the comics?
P.S. You rock
The characters are already created... But
the progression of the Comics really depends on how much time I
have to create the actual episodes... And of course, I'm always
thinking of new stuff that I want to include. So to be honest, I'm
really not sure when those two characters will appear in the episodes.
I can however shed some light on how they fit into the story...
Sgt. Smokes used to be a crooked cop working for the Hellford Police,
and Officer Leroy busted him for illegal activities. Leroy always
had a grudge against Sgt. Smokes, and took great pride in bringing
him down. Now, Sgt. Smokes makes a small fortune by selling goods
on the black market. Although he has no plans of returning to the
force, he'd love to score some revenge on Officer Leroy.
The increased amount of theft and vandalism has risen to an unacceptable
level. Officer Cherry Hill is one of the new recruits in town, hired
to combat the town's rising crime levels. Although she's serious
and gets right to business, rumor has it that she once led a rather
questionable life before becoming a cop.

I
know Super Smash Bros. Brawl is an extremely talked
about game among Nintendo fans such as your self and Detstar regulars,
but what launch titles for the Wii are looking forward to? I personally
am looking forward to "Red Steel", "Metroid
Prime 3", and "Super Mario Galaxy."
I'll go with Zelda Twilight Princess and
Metroid Prime 3.
Both of these series had impressive GameCube titles. It will be interesting
to see what they come up with next. |

Dr.
Football was hilarious!!!!! You sure know how to make
fun of someone! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! That book cover that said
"Hey wait a minute, I wrote a book" was funny as
well. Did you make the cover, or did someone else? Hilarious
either way! Good job!
Glad you enjoyed Dr. Football...
I had tons of fun making it. It started after hearing about
the release of the new Madden game, and how much cash the
series has earned to date...
I couldn't resist the temptation, and started scribbling a
few characters that eventually turned into Dr. Football.
Believe it or not, that's a REAL book cover... John Madden
actually wrote that book... Even the title makes him sound
stupid, so it was a bit of work to make him sound even dumber...
But I think the point was made.
Final Score:
Madden: 94,000
Dexter: 1
In your face, Madden!

Why
the hell is your whole website totally biased against anything
that isn't Nintendo? There are tons of kickass games on PS2
and X-Box 360!
Unlike some people who have tons
of cash, I can only afford to buy games for one system...
And it just happens that I've been playing Nintendo ever since
I was a 'lil hellraiser.
Nintendo
is a real gaming company, but they simply don't have the marketing
dollars to compete with the other two giants. Nintendo knows
how to make games, while the other companies know how
to sell games.
When I was a
lad, Sony made TVs, and Microsoft made shitty computer software.
Nintendo was the fun company that made GAMES! Microsoft and
Sony are just rich, greedy companies that have jumped into the
huge video game market to make a fortune. Why the hell should
we support these sleezy corporations and buy their crap?

who
do you plan on using first in super smash brothers brawl?i
will use snake (if you dont have to unlock him, otherwise
meta knite) and wario in a vs.match.
My guess is that Solid Snake won't
be available right off the bat... Samus is one of my best
Melee characters, so it would be interesting to test the agility
of Zero Suit Samus... But she might be a secret character
as well. In that case, my two choices would probably also
be Meta Knight or Wario.

It
sux that Rare moved to the rich fuckers at Microsoft, but
at least four guys decided to move to form their own company.
I have Perfect Dark Zero, though it's good,
it's a disappointment to both GoldenEye and the original Perfect
Dark. After playing Time Splitters: Future Perfect, It's pretty
easy to say that the five guys that left Rare and Formed Free
Radical were the brains behind it all. Had those five guys
stayed, Rare may have not moved to Microsoft. What do you
think?
Rareware's move to a richer company
was inevitable... Back when they were in their prime, they
were churning out a great game every year, so Microsoft likely
made them an offer they couldn't refuse. But moving forward
without some of the leading Goldeneye & Perfect Dark team
members seems to have ultimately led to the failure of Perfect
Dark Zero.
The guys at Free Radical Design have done an amazing job with
the TimeSplitters series. It takes a dedicated team of a few
dozen to develop a game. The veteran team members have definitely
learned alot from their experiences in Goldeneye and Perfect
Dark... And having a few key leaders can make all the difference
in the world for a successful game.
It's easy (and fun!) to criticize Rareware for abandoning
ship and sailing away with Microsoft... But the chance to
sell your soul for complete and total financial freedom would
definitely be tempting... It's just
like the professional athletes who sign $100 million contracts
to play for teams they used to hate... It's not a game, it's
a business. And in the business world, money talks.

Hi,
I was searching the Web for pics and movies from Super
Smash Brothers Brawl, and i came across a rather
interesting picture featuring Sonic The Hedgehog as
a playable character in SSBB.
It looks pretty realistic but, The text looks as though
it has been copied and pasted to spell out the brand-new
text.
It's
surely a fake... But it's still highly entertaining.

(in
Perfect Dark) What real gun was the falcon 2
modeled after? If it wasn't modeled after a specific one, what
gun out there would be closest?
Gun fanatics
are always on my case about correctly identifying the weapons
in video games... And these are the wrong people to mess with.
In reality, the developers likely borrow the bits and pieces
that they like best when creating a polygonal model for a weapon.
As far as I know, the weapons in Perfect Dark are mostly fictional,
because they're from the future. I'm sure someone out there
has probably found a weapon that may have inspired Joanna Dark's
Falcon 2. |
