Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, then this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

'Tis
The Season to be Holstile...
With the holiday season upon us, magic is in the air. There's
nothing like the rush of killing a rival shopper for a video game
system... But unless you want to spend Christmas behind bars, I
wouldn't advise it. If you're a free citizen, send your e-mails

Congratulations on seven years of Goldeneye coverage!
And thanks again for all of the info surrounding this game! Before
I discovered this site, I thought it was the Goldeneye master. Boy,
was I wrong!
Thanks again; keep up the good work on your awesome site!
I'm hardly
the Goldeneye master... I was just the only Goldeneye fanatic who
was crazy (or stupid) enough take on the challenge of documenting
this game. Goldeneye wasn't heavily marketed, but it managed to
attract a cult of followers... Many of whom still seem to prefer
Goldeneye over the "new & improved" Perfect Dark games.

Hi
Det, I have a few things I was wondering about on Super
Smash Bros. Melee, on Soundtest, a rumor, and something
I'm wondering about in SSB Brawl.
First, on soundtest, Pikachu
has 2 sounds that have me very curious. Pikachu: 28 and Pichu:
22
I would like to know how I could play these voices in a game
to see what it causes.
Next, I was cruising sites about
SSBM and there was a download on one site (cant remember)
that said "In Super Smash Bros. Melee, here was a Special
movie you could activate in Data, Archives. That video showed
the characters you start off with. This movie is the cutout
from the game that features ALL characters." Is that
true Det? if so, do you think you could put it on the site
for people to see?
And finally, How many characters
are going to be in SSB Brawl? your opinion? I heard there
were going to be about 50 or higher, I could be wrong though.
P.S.: I LOVE your site!
PIKACHU SOUND
TEST:
That Pikachu sound #22 is a softer, weaker uttering of "...Pika".
It could be the sound he makes after shielding for too long,
but I'm not sure.
As for #28, its a louder, more urgent noise that sounds like
"Poo-GAH!"
I believe that this sound effect might not actually be used
anywhere in the game.
SPECIAL MOVIE:
There is a movie in the archives... But
I'm pretty sure that the video doesn't contain any long lost
characters. Just a slight difference with the Hyrule Temple
stage.
BRAWL CHARACTERS:
There were 25 characters in Super Smash Bros Melee - So there
will be at least that many in SSB Brawl. I'd expect anywhere
from 30-40 characters, many of whom will surely be hidden
or unlockable.

hey
what pokemon should be in Super Smash Bros Brawl?
I say Regice and Lucario.
|
The
character selection is bound to be enormous, and I'm sure that they'll
add a few more Pokémon characters as playable characters.
Mewtwo was an awesome addition to Melee, so I hope he comes back.
Because I don't think that BRAWL will feature Ridley the dragon
from Metroid Prime, I'm gonna suggest Pokemon's dragonish aerodactyl,
just for the fun of it.

I was wondering if you could help me. Some of my friends and I were
playing Smash Bros Melee and a random dead body, it
kind of looked like a zombie or a skeleton appeared on the screen.
It then got up and started walking to link. He hit it with a spinning
sword attack and it went flying. I never saw anything like that before.
Do you have any idea what it was?
Every once in a while, random monsters will
appear on stage. The zombie you saw was a Re-Dead from the Zelda series,
there's also a purple Octorok from Zelda, and a goomba from Super
Mario Bros. (plus a polar bear and ice critter from the Ice Climbers
series)
There doesn't
seem to be a set way of making it happen, but it's fairly rare.
The monsters become a temporary obstacle on the battlefield until
they are killed by a player, which causes them to fly off-screen.

Some
people are saying that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond
yet. I think that Sean Connery was the best Bond. Who do you
think is the best James Bond actor?
Everyone seems to have their favorite...
But for some reason, I like different ones for different reasons...
Dalton's cold nature made him seem like a real spy... Roger
Moore had an entertaining calmness, even when in danger. Connery
and Craig represent a tougher Bond, while Pierce Brosnan's
Bond had a slick personna and calmness, which 007 accquired
after years of being a spy.

While
taking a trip into the past to recap how much Perfect
Dark 64 has changed since the N64 days, I ran into
your website. I put a lot of time into this game and I still
cant believe how much stuff I over looked,....missed....ignored.
Even the simple....Nintendo N as the Pd symbol baffled me
to how Deep this game is. I ponder now...is Perfect Dark Zero
just as deep?
But that's not the Point. I personally want to thank you for
keeping your site up even though the majority see it as "outdated".
Thanks for your hard work and dedication.
Perfect Dark Zero definitely hasn't
lived up to the hype, as far as the majority of fans are concerned.
Today's game's really lack the depth... They're all about
killer graphics and special effects, with minimal attention
being given to overall enjoyment and replay value.
Perfect Dark and Goldeneye were filled with enough hidden
details and mysteries to keep some players obsessed forever...
Sadly, games like that seem to be a thing of the past.
It's nice to hear some praise for keeping the Perfect Dark
site online, instead of the typical complaints about the lack
of PD updates.
(a hint for PD fans: If you have something new that hasn't
been posted before, type up a few paragraphs and send it in.)

Okay
homeboy, ive found a TON of new things (on Super Smash
Bros Melee), but cant list them all...first off, i
wasted my time figuring out how many credit names there are.
There are about 200 or so, cause using the AR you can pause
any cutscene in the game
Also, youre site fuckin rocks, thanks for 7 long years of
goledeneye updates, and why isnt the goomba entei and majoras
mask levels accessible????? i cant find them in the debug
stuff....
Most people agree that hitting all
the credits is an unattainable feat... There are so many to
hit, and some of them are only in view for a split second...
When I first played Melee, I was sure that those mysterious
levels would eventually be unlocked... But after I finished
the game, I was surprised that those 3 stages didn't appear.
For whatever reason, they're only in Event Matches 14, 26
and 47. These trophy battlefields are more of a novelty than
anything, but they'd still be cool to have in VS mode.

Hey Det , nice site i know this
is off the topic but do you play Runescape ?
you should do a page about it
Ah, Runescape...
A game so addictive that it rivals cocaine in worldwide popularity.
I know people who are hooked on the 'scape... They're pale
folks who never see the light of day... There's so much stuff
to do and find that it would be virtually impossible to create
a guide for a game that's always changing and never ending.
I've never played Runescape myself, but I heard about one
guy killing another guy in real life, just because the dude
screwed him over in the game...

When
you buy the game, it should come with the instruction book. Maybe
you could create a page so visitors could use it when they lost theirs
or need it.
Back in the Super
NES days, I lost the Instruction Manual for Super Mario Kart... I
hardly ever actually use the manuals, but I like to keep them for
collection purposes... Plus, they often have cool pictures and graphics
to look at. (Donkey Kong Country was a good one)
Luckily, there websites where you can download video game manuals.
A few good examples are:
http://www.gamemanuals.net/
http://www.replacementdocs.com/
Both of these websites have the entire booklet for Mario Kart (and
many other games) in full color, PDF format.
(The files are large, so make sure to do it at work if you don't have
fast Internet at home) |

I
think that non-subscribers should have access to the content
that members are allowed to see.
I think that non-subscribers should
be thankful that there are Members who want to support this
website and keep it alive... Just think about that while you're
enjoying THOUSANDS of FREE pages and screenshots.
Detstar isn't a multi-billion dollar corporation... It's a
website operated by a lone individual who should have clearly
closed the place down when operating costs got out of hand.

Hey,
I think I saw the Black Bull (from F-Zero) on a tv screen
in the breaking and entering mission on TimeSplitters Future
Perfect. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?
It's hard to say for sure.... It
definitely does resemble the evill craft piloted by the notorious
Black Shadow at first glance... But I think it looks a bit
like the giant killing machines that patrol the building.

Your website is soo kool! I love the awkward
pics from Super Smash Bros Melee, it's true you can
get some awkward things when you pause the game. One time I got a
very disturbing pic of peach and mario.(shudder)I would leave a NO
COMMENT on the ones like with yoshi licking ness's nads. That isn't
all I like though, once it helped me get through forsaken fortress
on Zelda.
People
always seem to send me those awkward pictures that happen on their
games... I often wonder whether some of those shots were accidental
or intentional... They're still entertaining, either way. :)
I also thought that Zelda's Forsaken Fortress was a bit tough the
first time - I'm used to fighting my way out, instead of the sneaking
around that's required in Forsaken Fortress. |
Hi
there, I came across your very interesting page about the removed
"All Bonds" feature of GoldenEye. The
section on the page titled "The Faces of James Bond",
mentions that in that beta video the face (which appears very,
very briefly) does not appear like Sean Connery and that it
may have been just a fill.
Now, I don't know if it is interesting or relevant anymore,
but I was bored so I made up this GIF transition with a capture
and a Connery face. To me they look very similar, with the same
hairline, eye and nose position and size. It seems that the
mouth is off, but in my photograph, Sean is smiling.
Anyway, great site, I hope this
message wasn't a total waste of time. :)
A very
interesting graphic indeed... Although I originally thought
the face looked like an old man, I can definitely see some resemblance
to Connery in there now... It's very strange that this video
was released, which seems to deliberately offer a closeup of
Connery,.... This fleeting image has gone down in history as
part of a speculative Goldeneye debate that's lasted for a decade. |
