Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, then this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Smash
Bros Mail-ee...
Welcome to the first Mailbag of 2007. During the move to
the new server, some of my mail was lost. Instead of getting pissed
off, I'm just gonna pretend that it was spam. (New Years' Resolution:
To live in a constant state of denial)
This Mailbag is full of surprises, most of which center around Super
Smash Bros Melee.

Hi!
Firstly, I'd like to tell you that I love your sites. They're very
interesting, with all those secret things you can check once you've
finished a game or if you are bored. I personally like that kind
of stuff, so needless to say that I went and checked many of the
Super Smash Bros. Melee, GoldenEye
and Zelda The Wind Waker 'interesting stuff'!
|
|
On
page 4 of the interesting stuff section (Super Smash Bros.
Melee), you talk about how there are many different faces
when you use Peach's vegetables attack. You listed 6 there, but
I found two more, after doing the attack a hundred times, if it's
not more. (not joking here!)
The first face I found looks like this: -.- It has closed eyes (like
the one with stitches, without the eyebrows), and its mouth is just
a dot. I threw it at an enemy, and it did about 6% damage. It appears
often.
|
The
second face I found looks a little like this: '_' Its eyes are only
dots, and it's smiling. It did about 16% damage. Oddly though, it
appears rarely. It always takes me some times before getting it, which
is weird, because it appears less often than the one with stitches,
but makes less damage. |
Another
thing I found when doing the vegetables attack: after many, many attacks,
you can even pick up items. I've picked up a bob-omb, a beam sword
and a Mr. Saturn. I don't know if you knew about this (probably),
but I didn't see anything about that on the site and it happened to
me rarely, so I thought maybe you ignored that... |
|
Oh,
and the Baby Mario zoom in thing and Daisy's third eye made me check
some of the trophies' back, hoping to find more interesting stuff.
Just to say that when I checked the Andross trophy (the one with
the hand, not 'pixeled') from behind, you can see his mouth and
tongue but also his eyeballs, without the skin and all... Funny
face. lol
|
Anyway,
thought it would be a great addition to the section, making it more
complete maybe. Keep up the good work at your sites! They just rock!!
:)
Glad you enjoy the website. I've always loved
finding these neat little details inside games, and I've made a hobby
of posting these things for other players.
When I was taking screenshots of those new veggies, it was the first
time I've seen Peach pull a Mr. Saturn out of the ground. Her ability
to occasionally be able to pull items is mentioned on the site somewhere,
but even I can't find it...
Thanks for sending these entertaining little tidbits... The Andross
face is pretty neat. |

Hey
Det! I saw the ideas for a new Bond game and I say how about
Moonraker. That would be awesome. From should
in zero gravity in space to plainly shooting people on land/earth.
Also Roger Moore is my favorite Bond actor and he needs a
game. Another plus is fighting side by side with jaws and
of course awesome multiplayer.
A very interesting choice... Largely taking place in outer
space, Moonraker was the James Bond franchise's answer to
Star Wars. But somehow in the eyes of most Bond fans, Moonraker
is one of the least popular Bond films. It's hard to turn
a popular movie into a good game... Which is why Moonraker
might be an interesting candidate.

Hey
Det,
I'm probably as exited for SSBB as the next
but I found some info that made me a bit more exited. While
looking for Wii availability on BestBuy.com, I stumbled across
a SSBB release date (3/15/07). Do you know if its real or
just an educated guess?
|
That's
news to me.... Last I heard, BRAWL was to be released within
the first seven months of 2007. A March release date sounds
a bit soon, and I don't think an official release date has been
announced yet...
An early summer release seems much more realistic... The Amazon
UK website lists June 30, 2007 as the release date. I'm not
sure if that date's official, especially because there's no
release date posted on the Amazon U.S. website. Still though,
I expect it to be released in North America early in June.
Note to self: Book some summer vacation time away from work
to enjoy BRAWL. |

Hi!
Will Waluigi appear in Super
Smash Bros Brawl?
Although
there's no official word on Waluigi's status, I'd be surprised
if he wasn't included. He's good buddies with Wario, who's
already been announced as a new character. And because there
are so many expected characters, I can't see Waluigi being
left off the list.

|
Hey
Det, awesome site. Anyway, there's alot of fake character screens
that you put in the Submitted Screen section of the SSBM section.
I was just wondering, which one is your favorite? And which one do
you think is the most well done? Thanks alot, man.
Tons of memorable
select screens have been sent in since the dawn of Melee... (The John
Stewart one comes to mind). Although this "classic"
select screen is obviously fake, it's one of my favorites because
of its' unique style. |
But
the screenshot created by DewLuigi 2002 is definitely one of the most
convincing... Aside from having 8 players, there are over 100 characters
here... Which should make the screenshot an obvious fake... But dozens
of people were convinced that they could actually unlock fighters
like WizPig, Darth Vader and The Hulk.
I guess it just proves the words of some old philosopher: People are
more likely to believe a big lie than a small lie. |
|
I
don't know if you know this already, but (in Super Smash Bros
Melee) you can have Peach with a giant or extremely small
radish by making the items only giant mushrooms or only poison mushrooms
or both to make a really cool effect. All you do is you put it on
giant tiny melee, get a poison mushroom and then get a radish. Then
you get big, and get a giant mushroom and you'll still have the
tiny radish. This works vice versa too.
|
Hey,
that's a pretty cool trick... It makes for some really interesting
visuals... I think the gigantic turnip is my favorite. |
|
Hi,
I found this video of Super Smash bros. Brawl,
the guy who created this trailer even said it was fake. My
question is, will at least SOME of the characters shown here
MIGHT be in Super Smash Bros. Brawl?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8QCL7MHSNs
ps, I love this site, I REALLY
do
That
video boasts quite a large selection of characters... It
even "confirms" the return of several existing characters,
like Bowser, Falco, Captain Falcon, Ness, Luigi, Mewtwo and
Ganondorf... It even shows new characters like Diddy Kong
. (The Ganon clip was taken from a GameCUBE demo, while DK
and Diddy footage was borrowed from Donkey Kong Racing).
As for the new characters, here's my own breakdown of their
chances of appearing in Super Smash Bros BRAWL:
|
Possible:
Diddy Kong
Krystal Fox
Waluigi
Bowser Jr.
|
Doubtful:
Ridley
Black
Shadow
Sonic the Hedgehog |
Long
shots:
Shadow Mario
King Dedede
Viewtiful Joe
Rayman
Meowth
Lucario
Wolf

First
off, thanks for providing us with such a great site over the
years.
Second, will we ever find the
real reason why Goldeneye 007 features two Bonds
that look different? One only has a SLIGHT resemblance to
Pierce, while the other looks identical to him. Who do you
think the nonidentical is suppose to be in your opinion? Why
are there two versions of Bond in the game? I feel it is one
of the most underrated Goldeneye mysteries. Thanks.
|
I
don't think this mystery has ever been completely solved...
Bond has the lighter face for 18 missions, but takes on a darker
face with slick hair for the final 2 secret missions... Despite
the darker face being used in only two missions, this is the
face that Bond wears for Multiplayer.
The darker one, in my opinion, looks a bit like Sean Connery...
However, this face doesn't match the "Connery Face"
from beta preview videos. Even stranger, is that those bonus
stages were based on films starring Roger Moore. (Moonraker,
Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun). |

Well
I noticed on one of your interesting pages (for Super
Smash Bros Melee) that there was a platform in the special
movie that is not in the game. Well I'm not sure if you already
noticed it but when it gets to Link's part in the special movie,
that platform is seen again. He is using his UP-B from the platform.
Also, at the end of Zelda's part you can see it in the upper
right corner of the screen. |
Actually I hadn't noticed, so I recorded a video and played
it back. That mysterious platform is definitely hovering there.
Maybe it was decided that the platform would get in the way
of the action. That ledge and gap is one of the more awkward
areas for setting up attacks. |
Hi
detstar,
I just thought you might want to know
in case you didnt that your speculation about zero suit samus
in Super Smash Bros Brawl was right on. The official
site, www.smashbros.com said so. Just thought Id bring this
to your attention.
Samus is one of
my favorite fighters, so I was interested to learn about this neat
twist... The Zelda/Sheik combo allows for a more interesting character,
as will Samus' ability to morph mid-game. The ability to slip out
of the spacesuit for some faster action will be a great asset.

Hello,
I must begin like all others by rambling about just how awesome you
are. Seriously, you have got the best SSBM coverage
ever...Which is why I'm writing to your mailbag here; although I must
admit I've been dying to see my letter on your site! In the Special
Movie (Data> Archives > Special
Movie), if you watch the video long enough and look closely
at the part near the end where there are a bunch of weapons and stuff
you can see Ganondorf at the tip of the screen firing off a super
scope. Just thought I'd point that out as it is a rather confusing
thing to see one secret character amongst all the standards... Anyways,
I guess that's all. I have plenty of other things to say abort my
own Melee findings but unless you found this helpful I'll just keep
quiet. Thanks for listening, and you rule Det!!!
That huge firing squad
is one of my favorite scenes from the movie. It does look like Ganondorf
up there, but it's hard to be 100% sure. The king of evil would seem
a bit out of place, because that would make him the only hidden character
shown in this movie. My first guess was Captain Falcon, but he looks
to be wearing darker clothing, like Ganondorf... It's hard to tell
for sure if the character is wearing a cape. |
