Mailbag
Welcome to the Mailbag, where your questions
get answered... Or at least some of them, anyway. If you've got something
that hasn't been posted before, then this is where it can happen. Unanswered
questions is the main focus, but I receive practically everything, from
facts and findings, to codes and creations.

Plenty
of Small Critters Were Harmed Making This Mailbag...
It's a tad late for Monday's Mailbag, isn't it?
The helper monkeys were cranked into overdrive, and whipped
extensively as they frantically sorted Detstar mail. They finished
just in time to watch American Idol, at which point they threw pieces
of crap at the TV screen.
Fling your stuff here:

LETTER OF THE WEEK:

In
Super Smash Bros BRAWL, Bowser Jr. could have a move
where he turns into Shadow Mario from Mario Sunshine and Bowser
could transform into Giga Bowser for SSBB. That would be cool in
a match. P.S. maybe Nintendo is actually reading the stuff we right
for new possible characters and moves for them, so no one whines
about how someone isn't in the game or if they run out of ideas
they go to the internet.
He's a popular
choice, that's for sure. His inclusion in BRAWL is nothing more
than an Internet rumor at this point, but Bowser Jr. is actually
a feasible character. I like the Shadow Mario idea.
And if someone from Nintendo is reading this... Can you fix my NES?
Hello?

I
think you should tell how you got the cool and funny Super Smash
Bros pictures
Some shots were obviously staged, while
others just happened...
Most often, I'll just hit pause during gameplay just to see if I
can get some cool stills.
|
When
a shot is staged, it can often take a half hour just to pause the
game at a precise moment...
For example, when getting cracked with the Homerun Bat, a character
instantly flies off the screen. Trying to get this pose slightly after
the bat makes contact with Pikachu really took some effort... Nowadays,
I'd just use AR codes and go frame-by-frame.
|
Some
of the shots are flukes, which will never happen again on anyone's
game...
This shot of Ganondorf was obviously done with Action Replay codes,
although it takes several pause attempts to capture the perfect pose. |
|
This
hunting scene is obviously a setup. The item switch was turned to
nothing but bunny hoods.... I think you can partially see another
set of ears on the right side of the screen.
Kirby's color was
even switched to resemble a white rabbit.
|
In
this shot, I believe that Mario is being zapped by Mewtwo...
The game was paused at the right moment, and this unusual shot was
born. |
This
probably won't happen but do you think Shy Guy will be in Super
Smash Bros BRAWL? Before you think "No Way!" You
have seen him appear in Mario Tennis, a road block in Mario Kart DD
and probably other games as well so he could have a very tiny chance
but you never know what could happen because Mr. G&W appeared
in SSBM. And Shy Guy has a good of a chance as Geno or Dark Samus
Since Shy guys will be featured as part of
the background for the "Mario Circuit" stage, it seems kinda
unlikely that they'll also be playable characters too. |
|
while
looking through your debug gallery I kinda realized something that
that game-makers must not have thought of when makin the corneria
stage. The ship is moving right? well wouldn't the characters go
towards the back of the ship when jumping.
P.S. I'm not saying that SSBM is stupid and un-detailed because
it's not.
I never really thought of that... Likewise for the mini "doom
ship" on Rainbow Cruise.
I suppose it would be awkward to keep falling towards the back...
Although it could be interesting as an element of strategy.

For
SSBB, I have come up with some moves for Diddy Kong. When
he double jumps he gets his barrel jet pack out! His basic
attacks are fast and could use his hat for attacks {like Dixie
with her hair} Of course he must use his dual peanut guns
and possibly his tail. When Kirby swallows Diddy he gets the
hat and his tail. Either way, he would be an awesome addition
to SSBB. Am I right or what?{P.S. I love this website!}
Diddy
Kong appears to be one of the favorite candidates for BRAWL...
He's also a character that I can actually see as a playable
character. Diddy and Dixie would make an great tandem, but
everyone knows that Diddy and Dixie got divorced...

Hey, Detty boy! Haven't been
on Detstar in a while, glad I caught up.
I've got two little things I'm
wondering about...
1 - Could you post a picture
of your current desktop? With your icons, wallpaper, skins,
etc? (Now, do I really have to tell you you can black out
anything that could lead to your identification?) If you do,
please post a large picture- ain't nothin' more annoying than
squinting at some tiny-little pic.
Share
my desktop? You obviously don't know me very well... I won't
post a picture, but I can describe it if you like...
- Imagine 60-70 desktop icons, 98% of which are Detstar related.
- Frequent
and Random Error Messages
- Current Wallpaper: Midna from Zelda TP
- Large Mug of Detstar Coffee, away from spilling distance
of keyboard
- 15-20 different windows open at any given time.
- Raspy voices coming from either side of the monitor
- Gun rack within arm's reach
2 - You say you hate Gates and
Microsoft and Windows, etc... why don't you by a Mac? I've
tried them at school, and I assure you they're actually
really good - possibly better than PCs. First of all, they
don't glitch at all, and even though very little is compatible
with Macs these days, that's
gonna change soon... Plus, a lot simpler interface and that
kinda stuff.
Bill
Must Die! Yes, I have a love-hate relationship with Microsoft...
I hate the crashes and unreliability... But I like the fact
that all of my Detstar tools and equipment are designed for
Windows. Switching would no doubt require me to obtain new
software, especially for some of my older equipment... Besides,
it's nice to have someone to swear at when something goes
wrong. (Damn You Bill Gates!!!)
And work on those forums! Hope
you don't actually go for that shitty ad-infested free junk.
God I hate that shit...
Ah, but you know what they say...
You get what you pay for, and unfortunately, there's not much
choice. I'm not shelling out the cash for a messageboard that
costs me money, but free forums are pretty crappy. People
have definitely expressed an interest in the forums, and the
release of Smash Bros BRAWL would be a good excuse to relaunch
the board.

I
suggest that you should just tell me the reason you are making
the 5 characters retired in Super Smash Bros Brawl.
it haunts peoples memories and is this a character shortage?
I hope that your prediction is wrong and give an earlier release
date not June 1st
Characters
are often dropped in video game sequels... I'd be surprised
to see all 25 characters return, even though every character
from the original Super Smash Bros made it into Super
Smash Bros Melee.
The five characters in question (Game & Watch, Ice Climbers,
Pichu, Dr. Mario & Young Link) are simply my thoughts
for who's unlikely to return. Some of those characters are
fan favorites, and I myself would choose to keep Pichu over
Pikachu... But I'm basing these choices from a realistic perspective,
and my reasons for each character are stated on the page.
As for a sooner release date than June 1st, that's kinda out
of my hands, isn't it?
No date has been confirmed yet, but June 2007 seems to be
popular belief.

Could
we actually see another pokemon on Super Smash Bros
Brawl ??? I hope the pokemon is well known and actually
has some cool moves like Mewtwo.
Mewtwo was one of the coolest additions
for Melee. He's an odd character, he's probably in my top
five. He can become a very frustrating character to play against
once you've memorized his moves.
I'm
definitely expecting to see a few more Pokémon characters
in BRAWL. Problem is, all the well-known Pokémon are
already used as items in Melee... Not sure if any of them
could be "promoted" to the rank of fighter or not.

YOU
FORGOT THE N64s BIRTHDAY!
How right you
are... November 2006 was the milestone 10th anniversary of the N64.
(If a guy forgets his 10th wedding anniversary, he spends the year
on the couch)
It seems like just yesterday when I decided to cut back on food so
I could afford to buy the fun machine... That was two generations
ago, but the fond memories live on... Many multiplayer matches, and
many classes skipped. |
You
guys should definitely do legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
on wii or gamecube. and Super Smash Bros Brawl when
it comes out
"Just do
it"...
If only it were that easy. It's simply not possible for me to cover
both, especially since Zelda is such a massive game. If I were you,
I'd put my money on Super Smash Bros BRAWL...
|
Please
don't get rid of the Perfect Dark site! You re-did
the GE site, so why not the PD one? The number of GE fans are
even lower than PD, so that theory of yours make no sense.
Actually, based on traffic usage and mail I receive, the Goldeneye
site wins in overall popularity.
I took a whole night, and stayed up later than a crack-addict
frantically restoring every single Goldeneye page.
Maybe someday I'll feel like punishing myself by rebuilding
Perfect Dark... It's hard to get motivated enough to tackle
such a massive project. |
Yo
I saw a few movies on samus in Super Smash Bros BRAWL
and realized how powerful her beam was. Seriously it looks like it
could K.O. a character in 1 shot. I was wondering if you think that
it will be stronger or weaker than in Super Smash Bros Melee.
The video clip of Samus Aran blasting everyone to pieces with her
arm cannon is a memorable moment in the BRAWL trailer... While it's
possible that it's a super move, it could just as easily be a scene
from the game's intro. |
