Bugs in Spring?
I
found this kinda interesting... When the original Super Smash Bros
was released in April 1999, the Volume 119 of Nintendo Power featured
Beetle Adventure racing on the cover along with a small piece of
Smash Bros artwork. Nearly a decade later, the Smash Bros franchise
is huge, while the thrill of Beetle Adventure racing is long gone.

you've got something for the mailbag, you know where to send it:

LETTER OF
THE WEEK
I
think I found the origin of the skull cap worn by the guards in
Goldeneye
007. The skull on the cap is what SS soldiers wore on their
hats and tunics.

Who
could have imagined that Rareware would borrow an idea from Nazi
Germany? If Hitler were still alive, he'd probably sue.

Hey
Det,
Just wanted to say something
about the Male Wireframe in SSBM. I was playing around with
the debug menu and decided to fight with the Male Wireframe.
After a while I tried out his taunt, and it turns out according
to his body motions he seems to be a replica of not Ganondorf
as some have pointed out but Captain Falcon. He does the same
thing as Falcon's taunt when he says "Show me your moves."
Just felt like throwing that out there. Love the website,
keep up the good work.
Ah,
how right you are... Ganondorf and Captain Falcon are essentially
"clone" characters, but the taunt is a dead giveaway.
It's definitely Captain Falcon.

Hi,
Awesome site. I loved Goldeneye, played it to death
and over the years discovered many of the things listed (excluding
Gameshark etc codes as I never used one of those devices). You probably
have the most comprehensive list ever!
I noticed the reference to the original
design of Goldeneye, and I remember reading it was once an 'on
rails' shooter (like Virtua Cop) before it was transformed into
Goldeneye. Other on rails shooters have body specific hit animations
in that era when many other FPS games did not... this was one thing
that made Goldeneye
special] and flowed over from the old 'on rails' shooter engine.
If you ever found out more I'm sure people would be keen to hear
I was lucky
enough to obtain that single video clip from 1995 that showed the
player slowly moving forward, as if on a "track". Luckily,
the game evolved beyond that, and completely revolutionized the
first person shooter genre.

I
want to see a more pictures of Candi ... And how do you say her name?
"Sandy", "Condi" or "Candy"?
Everyone wants
a piece of Hellford's star soccer girl Candi Starr... She's the finest
girl in town, and her name is pronounced "Candy", just like
the sweet candy bars sold at Snax & Gas. |
OK!
I think these pokemon are totally going to rock for Super Smash
Bros Brawl:
1. Blaziken
2. Deoxys
3. Lucario
4. Tyranitar
5. Machamp
They're strong, they're cool, and they could kick ass!
Of your five
picks, I'd have to say that Machamp looks the meanest... He reminds
me of Goro from Mortal Kombat. |
I
found Link's shield here on e-Bay!
It's supposed to be life size and everything!
Hey, that's pretty cool... It even looks real. The description
tells you tons of cool stuff, but doesn't mention what it's
made out of. I bet it's plastic... |
I
found something weird in (Super Smash Bros Melee).
I was playing with the debug thing and i went to the Dk stage
with the Barrel. I was playing with the red Klp Trap and the
one went into the barrel.
That wild river is infested with those aggressive little critters.
Although they normally just tumble over the waterfall, I've
occasionally seen them fly right through the middle of the stage
and snap at players. |
Hey
man,
GE came out on 08/25/97. Are you planning any updates for the tenth
anniversary?
Ten years... Holy crap, has it been that
long?
If I have the time, it would be rather fitting to prepare a special
feature. But after a decade, there's not much stuff left to add. |
My
friend says you can unlock Birdo by escaping Brinstar in 10 seconds
or less in SSBM. Is that true?
Sounds like you're friend is hopped up on Easter chocolate...
Birdo is only found as a trophy, and as a background baddie in the
Mushroom Kingdom 2 stage. |
