F-Zero GX: Emerald Cup
Course Overview

FIRE
FIELD
Cylinder Knot
|
The
first track in the grueling Emerald Cup is surprisingly
simple to navigate. The entire track is a pipe on which
you navigate the outside (opposite of Port Town - Long
Pipe). Since it's impossible to crash or fall off, focus
on memorizing the Dash Zone locations and speeding through. |
|
(1)
As always, taking the inside of every curve is the fastest way to get through this course. There are Dash Zones on both the inside and outside, but until you're able to memorize exactly where they are, the inside track will work to your advantage.
|
|
(2)
If you take this bumpy part too fast, you may
fly out of control and slow down considerably. Boosting
here can slam your machine the wrong way, so take it
easy.
|
(3)
Hit the Dash Zone here, then spin around to
the other side of the pipe and hit the next one. After
blazing over one more Dash Zone, stick just to the side
of the center of the pipe to avoid smashing into the support
beams.
The final part can be a bit disorientating at first, and
if you head off the jump the wrong way, you'll fly off
the course... To avoid this fate, you can watch the background
and make sure the lava is below you (and not to the side
of you!). |

GREEN
PLANT
Intersection
|
After
flying through a long pipe (similar to Port Town - Long
Pipe), you'll return to a regular track and dodge the
pipe you were just racing through as it weaves through
the road. Very few parts will present problems in this
otherwise straightforward track. |
|
(1)
To cover minimal ground in the pipe, follow one
of the blue lines precisely. Otherwise, you may fly
around and lose precious speed.
|
|
(2)
Never sacrifice the Dash Zone in this part
of the pipe. Even though you can only spend minimal
time in the Pit Zone to hit the Dash Zone, another Pit
Zone awaits shortly.
Although
the Dash Zone is a bit hard to see in this screenshot
(so is the machine, for that matter...), it's ahead
and to the right. Part-way through the dash zone, slide
to the right to hit the Dash Zone.
|
(3)
After this second pit zone, watch out for the
red lines of track that mark an opening. These lines mark
the edge of the course, where you can accidentally fly
off. Head slightly right after going through the pit zone
to ensure your vehicle doesn't fall for this trap. |
(4)
The strategy to use on the stretch differs
depending on your machine. If your racer loses control
easily or has exceptional boost, stick to either side
and hit only the Dash Zones on that side. Otherwise, weave
back and forth to hit all the Dash Zones. |
(5)
This part often results in an instant retirement
of your vehicle. Keep steady and slowly curve to the left
before the large jump that can send your machine off course. |
|

|
LIGHTNING
Half Pipe
|
The
ultra-dangerous Half Pipe course features no guardrails,
which makes it easy to fly off course if you lose control.
A good strategy is to follow the bright line on the center
of the track, which helps in judging the intensity of
each curve. Practice this track slower at first, and as
you get to know the layout, start hitting as many Dash
Zones as you can handle. |
|
(1)
This part of the track becomes awkward if you're
relying on the center line for navigation. The track
twists and attempts to throw you off, so follow the
Dash Zones instead of the center line.
|
(2)
The toughest corner of the track is an extremely tight S-curve. If you're a daredevil, you can take the first part of the curve, then cut the corner and fly off the track temporarily, landing safely back on track with minimal speed lost. |
(3)
Be ultra-careful here if your energy meter
has nothing left. The laser beams that intersect the track
inflict minimal damage, but at zero energy, any damage
is fatal. It's safer to hit your last boost after this
stretch. |
|
|
|
BIG
BLUE
Ordeal
|
While
not as difficult to navigate as the previous track, Ordeal
is an extremely competitive track. It features awkward
serial gaps and a few tight corners, so practice up before
racing with the big boys. |
(1)
The track forks at this spot. If you're up to a
decent speed, take the left side, curve to the right gently,
and land back on track. Otherwise, head to the right to
avoid falling off course. |
(2)
After this dangerous section of track is a
jump... If you hit a wall before the jump, you won't have
enough speed to make it over the jump, and your machine
will fall off the course. You'll need to practice your
timing here to ensure you don't lose speed before the
jump. |
(3)
The last serial gap is extremely awkward. Even
after flying off the ramp, keep turning to the left until
you're safely on the grey track below. |
(4)
On the first lap, fly across the blue patch carefully
and speed off of the Dash Zone. On the other laps, stay
to the right and fill up at the Pit Zone. |
(5)
The first Big Blue course had a deadly S-curve,
and so does this one... The difference here is that the
curve is much wider, but still dangerous nonetheless.
Drift as necessary, then hit the Dash Zone and your booster
for ultimate speed, making sure to keep a steady hand
to avoid colliding with the narrow tunnel. |
(6)
This big hairpin turn can catch you offguard on
your first few times through the course. Slide in with
L, then drift with L&R to cut in and take the turn. |
(7)
Make sure to keep at least a bit of energy left
for until after this extremely tight path, where opponents
seem to become more aggressive than usual. Even if your
machine breaks down around here on the final lap, though,
don't instantly give up; your flaming wreck will often
fly past the finish line and snag a position. |
