F-Zero GX: Sapphire Cup Course Overview
Back to Courses Main

Written by Hutz

BIG BLUE
Drift Highway

What a way to start off the Sapphire Cup. This course is straightforward and insanely fast. Be as competitive as you can to get a good start to the cup.

(1) On the 2nd and 3rd laps, the big corner after the tunnel is an excellent spot to gain ground on your opponents. Use L&R to take it as tightly as possible, and boost during the turn as soon as you have control.

(2) The only difficult corner on Drift Highway is this odd S curve. If you take it too fast and crash, the damage to your machine could be astronimical.

(3) On either side of the track is a Pit Zone, while the center has three consecutive Dash Zones. You should only avoid the Dash Zones on the second lap, when you need to fill up for another lap of boosting. On the final lap, use the Dash Zones to soar ahead of the competition.
(4) If you take this ramp too quickly, you'll often find yourself smashing into the overhead bars and grinding to a halt. Tilt your nose down to avoid this fate.

PORT TOWN
Aero Dive

The first of the three incredibly easy courses in Sapphire Cup. The most thrilling part is the huge dive off of the top of the course!

(1) This part curves to the right slowly, then sharply cuts to the left. Keep your eyes peeled for the change in direction so you don't crash.

(2) Being airborne is incredible, but the fastest way to go is to slowly tilt your machine's nose down about 45 degrees. As you hit the ground, make sure your machine is parallel to the track to avoid a major speed loss. After the jump, you're on a long straightaway with bumps. At the end, is a sharp right turn, so you'll likely need to drift (L&R) around it.
(3) This is a similar setup to the end of the previous track. On the second lap you'll need the Pit Zone, but the other two laps are best ended with the Dash Zones.

GREEN PLANT
Mobius Ring

In the world of F-Zero GX, even oval tracks aren't simple! (Although they're still easy) You'll travel on both sides of the loop before crossing the finish line. Try to take this course as boost-heavy as possible.

(1) This curve can come surprisingly quickly, as it cuts to the side more sharply than the other curves. Keep your eyes open and stay awake to avoid crashing.

(2) This Pit Zone is awkward to take quickly, as you'll often find yourself sliding on the trench. Take it slow, then blast out of there with a boost.
(3) The second Pit Zone is almost as awkward as the first. Again, enter it slow, then make a hasty dash for the finish line.

PORT TOWN
Long Pipe

Another highly original track. Instead of a flat track, you're sent speeding through a full-pipe. Learn the intracacies of maneuvering in the pipe, as well as the Dash Zone locations, and you'll find this track a breeze. Memorizing where all the Dash Zones are in these twisty pipes will be a crucial factor to your success on the higher difficulty levels.

(1) Each of these spots has rotating pipes that may cause you to crash. Look ahead in advance to see where the pillars are, then take measures to speed through a gap.

(2) Several hills here may make you suddenly lose control. Don't attempt to blaze through this section of track, or you may find yourself flying out of control.
(3) Following two Dash Zones, the straightaway suddenly kinks really oddly. After hitting the second Dash Zone, immediately move 180 degrees around the pipe so you don't end up driving in reverse (it happens with some machines more often than others). After that, maneuver so you're climbing up the pipe, and move off to the side slightly to avoid a pillar. Speed on through the narrow openings in the exit of the pipe.

MUTE CITY
Serial Gaps

After an easy three tracks, you'll have to survive the insanely dangerous Serial Gaps course. If you're ahead by enough points, don't bother going the 'quick' way; just try to survive.
(1) After driving over the Pit Zone here, head to the left slightly to avoid the land mines that may cause you to fly off course.
(2) These jump pads are an excellent shortcut when coupled with a boost, but are quite dangerous if you lose control of your vehicle. If you're taking it safe, avoid them altogether.
(3) This section of track ends with a Dash Zone, then you're faced with a decision. The lower part of the track is slower and has dirt on the right, but it's a lot safer than the upper route. The high road has a tight curve followed by a Dash Zone that takes you back on the regular track. Practice using the high road for when you need to place near the top, especially on the higher difficulty levels. In either case, make sure to tilt your machine's nose up slightly after the Dash Zone so you don't fall short of either section of track.
