F-Zero GX: High Stakes in Mute City

Written by Hutz

Although all of the Story mode cinemas are really well done, the opening cinema for Chapter 3 is by far the most interesting clip. Falcon tries to relax for a while at a bar, which seems filled with low-lives and other scum. However, upon closer inspection, every single patron is a familiar F-Zero character, and various interesting things take place as they interact.

For more of these neat little details, check out the Interesting Stuff page.

Jack Levin
When Falcon steps in the bar, he's greeted by this former pop star.

Mrs. Arrow
She's sitting at a table, watching her husband and Zoda...

Gomah & Shioh
The Twin Norita pilots are at a table, with Gomah (the short one) spinning around on a stool.

Super Arrow, Zoda
The two of them are duking it out in front of Mrs. Arrow. Was this battle caused by their rivalry, or simply a drunken mood-swing?

Baba
For a split second, you can see him with his legs crossed in a feminine fashion. I suppose being strong doesn't necessarily make you masculine...

Antonio Guster
He's only visible for a split second, in the corner by the entrance. It's even hard to see him in this screenshot... He's actually behind Baba - You can see his white coat above Baba's leg.

Mighty Gazelle
He (it?) accidentally knocks Silver's last coin out of his hand, sending it rolling across the bar and in front of Falcon. This little fluke shows it may have been fate that brought Falcon into that bar.

Silver Neelson
The old man dresses Falcon up, enters him in the race, and hustles the other gamblers.

James McCloud
He accidentally bumps into Silver, who starts to rant about the high cost of betting. If Silver weren't so old and frail, odds are James wouldn't have just ignored him...

Bio Rex
Who says that only humans can be alcoholics? Rex is found sprawled on the ground and stumbling around as he knocks back a bottle of hard liquor.

Roger Buster
Draq's pal Roger can be seen beside the bar, on the far left of this screenshot.

Dr. Clash
For most of the cinema, he's behind the bar wiping down glasses. He finds Silver's plan to win cash quite amusing as he spots Falcon in the silly costume. Oddly enough, he also enters the bet race. I wonder who's watching the bar while he's out racing? At least Bio Rex is in the race too, safely away from the unguarded beer taps...

Draq
Draq is visible here, right behind Silver Neelsen. He's hanging out with Roger Buster, as the two partners enjoy a quiet drink in each other's company.

Near the start of the clip as Falcon parks his machine, you can spot the Golden Fox, the Wild Goose, and the Iron Tiger are parked outside the bar.

The following pilots actually enter Mission 3's bet race:
FAMICOM (Captain Falcon)
Beastman
Baba
Zoda
Super Arrow
Billy
James McCloud
Antonio Guster
Bio Rex
Mr. EAD
Jack Levin
Dr. Clash

On the big TV screen that shows the entrance, The Skull can be found on the list - But he actually doesn't even appear during the race, and can't be seen anywhere during the cinema. I think it's really weird that The Skull is listed here. Most likely a mistake...

For some reason, three of the characters who enter the race can't be found in the bar scene... Beastman, Mr. EAD, and Billy... Perhaps they were in the can? Mr. EAD can be spotted once the race has ended though...

After the race, four pilots can be seen moping around after losing. Let this be a lesson; if somebody's odds are exponentially worse than the norm in a bet race, put your life savings on that one!

In the left screenshot, you can spot PJ and Dr. Stewart. In the right shot, there's another rare glimpse of Antonio Guster (to the left of Falcon), and Mr. EAD. The fact that PJ appears here is quite odd... He's a secret character (earned by completing mission 9 on Very Hard), and he doesn't even enter the race.
