F-Zero GX: The Little Wyvern

Written by DetErest

Just a feature page on one of my favorite racing machines from F-Zero GX... The name 'Wyvern' means dragon, but it's not just the craft that's intriguing, but rather something about it's driver... The Little Wyvern is piloted by James Mcloud. Nintendo fans are sure to recognize the McCloud name, from Fox McCloud, the hero pilot of the StarFox games.

'James McCloud' just also happens to be the name of Fox McCloud's father from the StarFox universe... But this McCloud is a human being - At least as far as we can tell, anyway. Shown here to the right, is a shot of Fox's dad... Both characters even wear shades.

James is a fighter pilot, but had his combat jet converted into an F-Zero racing machine. Despite the modification to his ship, it still looks like an arwing. McCloud's racer is shown in this screenshot, soaring off a jump. It truly looks like it belongs in the sky, and looks even more like an arwing when airborne.

The character in the right screenshot is of course Fox McCloud, from StarFox Adventures. As far as I know, a full body view of Fox's dad doesn't exist...

In addition to all the things mentioned above, these two pilots also wear similar clothing. The boots, the pants, the short-sleeved jacket... Even the red scarf around the neck.

All of this stuff would lead us to believe that this fighter pilot is none other than Fox McCloud's father. But as far as we know, StarFox and F-Zero are set in two different galaxies. It's just another one of those neat little connections that Nintendo often makes between it's games. Things like this are always fun to see, and there's quite a history of things like this appearing. Some examples are the Mario/Bowser medallions from Lon Lon Ranch in Zelda Ocarina of Time, or the fact that Octoman (another racer from F-Zero) looks a lot like an Oktorok enemy character from the Zelda games.

Relax, dude. Parodied characters and personalities are just for shits and giggles.
