Chapter
1
Captain Falcon Trains |
After
seeing the prologue in which Black Shadow receives an ultimatum,
you are brought to Captain Falcon, who enters the secret holding
area of his precious Blue Falcon. Determined to win yet another
F-Zero Grand Prix, he flips on a training program in his vehicle
and prepares to train like never before.
Recommended performance setting: 80%-90% Max Speed |
You
have two goals in this training mission: in the allotted time
(80 or 60 seconds, depending on the difficulty), collect every
capsule and clear three laps. On Normal this is really easy,
and shouldn't take more than a few tries. However, the difficulty
explodes on the harder modes. The trick here is memorization
(not to mention rapid boosting!). Find a path on each lap that
will take you through several capsules and at least a bit of
Pit Zone. On the harder difficulties, you'll find groups of
capsules that have more than three on a horizontal row, making
it impossible to finish the row in the three laps. As you collect
one of those capsules, quickly turn and dig (L or R button)
to snag the one beside it. Especially on Very Hard, it can be
helpful to stop near large groups of capsules to study their
positions and find the easiest way for you to collect them all
in three laps. |
You must remember to boost whenever your speed drops, which means it's also important to stay healthy. Don't give up any capsules to refill your life, but make it a point to run over the Pit Zone for at least a fraction of a second each lap. Since you can't boost on the first lap, find the path that allows you to hit as many Dash Zones as possible during that lap without giving up any vital capsules. |

2
Goroh: The Vengeful Samurai |
After
seeing Black Shadow on the news, Falcon heads out to stop him.
While traveling through Red Canyon, however, he's abruptly stopped
by his nemesis Samurai Goroh and his cronies and is forced to
race him. The stakes? Each one puts up their vehicle, as the
law dictates in Red Canyon. What makes this race difficult is
the avalanche of boulders that will fall and attempt to get
in your way.
Recommended performance setting: 80%-90% Max Speed
|
You will learn two very useful strategies as you complete this mission. First, don't bother passing Goroh until the finish line is in the clear. If you pass him before that, he'll simply boost ahead of you again, so don't waste your energy boosting ahead of him. Also, be prepared to play through this track SEVERAL times as you memorize key locations of falling rocks. For most of the track, it's safe to stick to either side of the track and whiz right under the rocks that stop, but at other parts you should know where to maneuver. |
Around the last harsh bend, start boosting like crazy. It will take some luck and a lot of skill to avoid all the boulders at high speeds, but if you pull it off, Goroh will be eating your dust. |

3
High Stakes in Mute City |
After
his undesirable brush with Samurai Goroh, Captain Falcon decides
to take it easy and hit the clubs. The particular one he stops
at features bet racing, where F-Zero pilots race on a small
track and other people gamble on the winners. The old man Silver
Neelsen has only one measly coin left, and wallows in his disappointment
until he spots Falcon sitting at a table. He immediately thinks
of a plan to hustle the other gamblers: he pulls Falcon into
a changing room, slaps a silly mask and cape on him, and enters
him in the race as "Famicom". Although Captain Falcon is an
excellent racer, "Famicom" is unknown and has terrible odds
(2560 to 5). With these odds, Silver can earn loads of cash
from a single coin! Falcon must win the race so he doesn't disappoint
the old man who has faith in him.
Recommended performance setting: 70%-90% Max Speed |
The track is extremely distracting at first, but once you learn the layout it's a cinch to blast through. Make sure to hit all the jumps that take you around corners, but avoid the one that only takes you over a straightaway (it causes a speed loss). The first lap is easy to place 1st in, but after that you and your opponents gain the boost ability. The other racers max out its advantages, so you must do the same. |
Boost EVERYWHERE possible as long as your previous boost is fully worn off. It's important to refill your life as much as possible at each Pit Zone and to boost around the last three corners of the track. If you can't take the corners without crashing, try using drift (hold L AND R while turning). With some luck and patience, you should be able to win the race. |
