Chapter
4
Challenge of the Bloody Chain |
Captain
Falcon has once again set his sights on taking down Black Shadow,
but runs into a huge snag. Michael Chain's ruthless gang, known
as the Bloody Chain, has targeted the Blue Falcon as their latest
victim. Surrounded by Chain's followers, Falcon must fight for
his life on the speedy highway, destroying Michael Chain's vehicle
and entering the Lightning area before any of his cronies.
Recommended performance setting: 80%-90% Max Speed |
To
catch up to Chain, you need to use numerous boosts. However,
you don't have nearly enough energy to catch up to him at first,
so you need to take things slow. Since you gain a bit of life
back after you destroy a vehicle, make it your business to demolish
every gang member you pass. |
Although there are two modes of attack, the side attack (Control
Stick and X) is awkward due to the handicap used on this mission
(you won't be able to pass most drivers unless you boost past
them). Your best attack is the Spin Attack (Control Stick and
Z). To effectively destroy a vehicle, first boost up beside
it (as you CAN'T catch up to them due to handicap), then spin
and turn right through the victim. If it doesn't get destroyed,
you'll at least heavily damage it, allowing you to rip through
it with your next spin while attempting to destroy another vehicle
or two. |
Go
through the entire mission destroying other vehicles until only
you and Michael Chain remain. He can be tricky to destroy as
he's quite offensive. Avoid him as he spins and ram into him
with your own spins and side attacks when it's safe. Once he's
a goner, the mission's in the bag. |

5
Save Jody! |
Black
Shadow's damage to the city is adding up. He's reducing the
buildings to rubble, and an unstable nuclear power plant is
about to blow. The only person left inside is Jody Summers,
and her secret admirer fears for her safety. Captain Falcon
arrives in time and picks her up in the Blue Falcon. With not
even a minute left, you must blast out of the power plant before
it blows to kingdom come.
Recommended performance setting: 80%-90% Max Speed |
Only
two things matter in this mission: speed and memorization. The
tunnel is short, straightforward, and never changes. Boost as
quickly as you can when you're not maneuvering past the narrow
openings in the doorways, collecting as many life-refilling
green capsules as you can. |
The
doorway openings are either vertical, horizontal (you have to
climb up the side of the tunnel to make it through), or diagonal.
It's easy to remember the location of each door, so speed on
through when you're comfortable with the layout. |
Hit
all the Dash Zones at the end, and look ahead to line yourself
up with the ramp. After blasting through the Dash Zones, soar
off the jump ramp with the Control Stick tilted a little bit
down so you'll make it through the narrow escape. |

Chapter
6
Black Shadow's Trap |
After
finally finding Black Shadow, Captain Falcon fruitlessly tries
to reason with him. Falcon becomes subdued by his enemy in a
magical type of rope restraint. Shadow's minion, Blood Falcon
(who happens to be a lobotomized clone of Captain Falcon), places
a speed-sensitive bomb on the Blue Falcon as the Captain is
thrown into the cockpit of his death-trap. He's launched off
towards a twisty highway where he'll inevitably crash and lose
too much speed, causing the bomb to blow. He breaks himself
free from the restraint, however, and is free to pilot his machine.
He can't go below a certain speed (depending on the difficulty,
it's either 700, 750, or 800 km/h), so now Captain Falcon must
find a way to remove the threat while keeping up to speed on
the twisty highway.
Recommended performance setting: 80%-100% Acceleration |
To
make this mission easier, crank your acceleration setting high,
as with acceleration comes cornering, which is a lot more important
than max speed. The track is quite straighforward and has few
surprises, but those surprises can hit you really fast. Don't
take your chances with the Dash Zones, as the goal in this mission
is to simply keep above the posted speed. Take the sharp corners
from the outside while avoiding any traffic. Carefully maneuver
around the other speeding vehicles on the track, but remember
that the buses will yield you the center of the road, although
on Very Hard they take their time doing so. |
This
narrow strip of the track can be quite hazardous. It starts
off as a straightaway, but slowly curves to the left. Be very
gentle and smooth on the controls, as any drastic steering here
will send your machine grinding into a wall. Gently glide with
either the L or R shoulder triggers, and lightly use the control
stick. |
Near
the end of the track, a ruthless obstacle will block your path:
dirt. Driving over it will take you well below 700 km/h, so
hit your booster just before you hit each of the three initial
patches. Once you take the next corner, hit the Dash Zone and
barrel over the next patch on the center of the track, and use
your last boost over the fifth and final patch. The sides of
the fourth and fifth patches are clogged with traffic, so don't
risk crashing into any vehicles when you're this close to the
goal. After the dirt patches, a few odd twists will end the
track. |
