Yet another feature page for all the miscellaneous
details found within a game. If you know of another neat tidbit from F-Zero
GX that isn't posted here, feel free to submit it: DetErest@detstar.com

Cool
Coin...
The opening cinema scene for story mode mission 3 takes place inside
a bar. As the characters interact with each other, Silver Neelsen
is bumped, and his coin rolls across the table. The coin actually
has a number '1' stamped on it. Since it all happens so fast, the
only way I could actually find out what was on the coin was to record
a quick video clip and pause it.

 Switching
Suits...
The F-Zero TV reporter is one weird
dude... Even stranger, is his ever changing wardrobe. During the
interview at the end of Grand Prix mode, Mr. Zero wears a different
colored suit depending on the difficulty level. He wears green for
the Novice difficulty, purple for Standard and Expert, and white
for Master.

Scrolling
Text
After you finish the Grand Prix,
you're presented with a list of interview questions to ask the driver.
Right before the questions though, a bunch of scrolling text goes
by on the bottom of the screen. The following lines of text can
be found:
The AEROPOLIS mother computer is temporarily
down. The cause is unknown.
Headline News: The F-ZERO Carnival is now going on all over Mute
City!
The universal
gang "Bloody Chain" is causing a disturbance in PORT TOWN
Terminal 3
TOPICS: (YOUR CHARACTER) is the F-ZERO Grand Prix Champion!

Name
Game...
The android racer known as Mr.
EAD was named after his creators, the mysterious EAD group. Mr.
EAD's machine also bears a tribute to the group, having an EAD rating:
Rated E for Body, A for Boost, and D for grip.
EAD is also the name of Nintendo's Entertainment, Analysis &
Development team. And with that mustache, Mr. EAD also happens to
slightly resemble Nintendo's mascot Mario... He even has a starman
on his belt.

Bloody
Bastard...
In mission 4 of story mode, your goal is to destroy Michael Chain's
machine... But after you succeed and watch the ending cinema, Chain
can be seen driving his vehicle once more. It doesn't appear to
be damaged at all, even after being smashed out of the race.

 Caught
Cheating...
(This was just an attempt to trick
the game, and it DOESN'T work. So don't e-mail me about it...)
Mario Kart 64 had several
big unintentional shortcuts that players could use to score
impossible times. While playing F-Zero GX, I couldn't help
but wonder if I could pull off a really big cheat jump on
Phantom Road...
After the starting line, the track has a very large curved
incline. You can catch some serious air on this big ramp,
and right below it is a horizontal section of track where
the finish line can be found. By boosting my way up this ramp
and timing my final boost just before the peak of the slope,
I was hoping I could launch my machine through the air and
land back on the track right before the finish line. If it
worked, it sure as hell would have been one quick lap...
|
|
 Right
off the big slope and after soaring through the air, I was
practically on top of the finish line (left screenshot). I
landed right on the track as I had hoped. But as soon as I
landed, one of those little UFOs picked up my machine and
took me back from where I had jumped from. So much for my
little cheating attempt.
I guess this
just goes to show how those clever programmers have added
in safeguards to stop us from using possible shortcuts like
this. The only way to find out was to try... So I did, and
now I know.

Thanks to Seabelts
for posting the following tidbits on the Detstar Forums:

Spider
Sounds...
By completing chapter 7 of story mode on Very Hard difficulty, you'll
unlock a sweet machine called the Pink Spider from F-Zero AX (Arcade
Version). A famous Japanese rock band by the name of "X Japan" had
a hit song by the title of "Pink Spider". I'm not sure if this was
intentional, or whether it's a completely coincidental. Either way,
it's a neat little tidbit.

Familiar
Face...
Leon is the pilots of the Space Angler, but you could have sworn
that you've seen him before... Leon looks a little bit like Wolf
O'Donnel, leader of the evil Star Wolf team from StarFox 64. Leon
also shares a name with a member of the Star Wolf squad, Leon Powalski.
|
|
Daddy
Dearest...
The Golden Fox was actually built
by Dr. Stewart's father. Dr. Stewart inherited the machine from
his dad... Is it a coincidence that the racer's body, boost, and
grip are rated DAD?
|
|
Two
Tanakas...
F-Zero racer Jon Tanaka shares
a last name with a former Nintendo Employee... Hirokazu "Hip"
Tanaka was a composer who created the music and sound effects for
many of Nintendo's earlier games. While at Nintendo, Tanaka worked
on music for Metroid and Super Mario Land, and the sound effects
for Donkey Kong.

|
Evil
Antics...
The creepy pilot of the Death Anchor seems to have evil plans of
some kind. Although he's not quite as vicious as some of the other
pilots, his name does hint at his capabilities... Zoda is also the
name of the villain from the Star Tropics series.
