As with many of Nintendo games, Double Dash
is loaded with all kinds of hidden details for the avid player to notice.
Few of these things really contribute to the gameplay, but they're always
neat to discover.
Once again, a whole load of new discoveries have been made since this
page was completed... A whole other page worth, to be exact. And once
again, I'll include them in a future update.
If you'd like to submit something you've found that hasn't been posted
on either page so far, feel free to send it to DetErest@detstar.com.

Trucks
and Traffic
You're probably always driving
way too fast on the Mushroom Bridge to notice anything special
about the vehicles you're sharing the road with. But some
of them have special things on their sides... For instance,
this travel bus for the "Star Travel" company.
|
|

The Mushroom Bridge even
has a milk truck with Moo Moo Farm painted on the sides. The
tribute to the farm is something that fans of Mario Kart 64
are sure to recognize, as it's named after the Moo Moo farm
track.
On our right, we see the fabulous travel bus that's heading
to Peach Beach, with an advertisement for the Beach on the
side.

Mushroom
Bridge Boats...
If you're reckless (or adventurous) enough
to fall off the early left part of the actual Mushroom bridge itself,
you'll be able to discover a couple of boats docked at the bottom.
Amazing that a detail like this could be found way down here
|
|
Light
it up...
This is something that can be spotted
on the right side of the track, right before the Mushroom Bridge
tunnel.... The billboard reads 'LIGHTS ON', and has a picture of
a car with bright lights. Hmm... Last time I checked, the karts
themselves didn't even have lights.

|
 Mushroom
Bridge Plates
(Just a note here, most of these
vehicles also appear in Mushroom City)
In this left screenshot, we see the back of the Moo Moo farm
milk truck, which has the license plate '1UP', which is of
course the term for an extra life in Mario games... It's rather
misleading, considering nothing good will happen if you smash
into the back of this truck.
The car on the right has 'POW' for a license plate, which
just happens to be a powerful item from Super Mario Bros 2.
|
|
 The
truck to the left has the license plate 'SMB3'. What a coincidence
that Boo made his debut in this game, and I just happened
to be using him while checking out license plates.
The travel bus
on the right has the license plate 'STB'... What that stands
for, I'm not really sure. Considering how all of these plates
mean something, it couldn't just be a random jumble of letters...
'Star Travel Bus', perhaps?
|
|
The
Peach Beach bus has the word 'SUN' on the license plate, which
is rather fitting considering the destination. Unfortunately
for the sun-bathers on board the bus, they'll never reach
the sunny beach because the driver has plans to spend the
entire afternoon going round and round in circles on the Mushroom
Bridge.

Wario
Drugs, Inc...
I never pictured Mario's evil cousin running
his own business, but a Wario Pharmacy has sprung up in downtown
Mushroom City... I'm sure he only sells legal pharmaceuticals in
his store, and would never think of having more potent medicines
secretly stashed under the counter...
|
|
Patio
Furniture
This screenshot was taken in Mushroom
City, where we can see an outdoor area with tables and umbrellas...
Anyone wishing to leave the race and have a quick drink will be
disappointed to find that a vertical metal pipe prevents karts from
actually reaching this area.

 Mmm...
Chocolate
Mushroom City has a few vehicles driving
around that can't be found on the Mushroom Bridge. This 'Super Chocolate'
truck features graphics of the Koopa Troopa and Goombas from the
original Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment system.
Even the 'Super Chocolate' logo is modeled after the in-game title
screen from the original Mario Bros.
Since it's hard to take a snapshot of this moving vehicle, I recorded
a video so I could take screenshots later... But while watching
the clip, something flashed by that I didn't even notice the first
time - A NES Mario on the back of the truck, with the license plate
'W1-1'. The old Mario games had levels that were numbered this way,
so the license plate is yet another tribute to the classics.

Freezing
My Snowballs Off...
Sherbet island is home to living snowmen.
These creatures can be found in the background of some areas, and
are just stuck outside dancing in the freezing cold... Surely the
term 'snowmen' won't be medically applicable after the Grand Prix
is over...
|
|
Yoshicopter...
Mario fans are bound to remember all the
different Yoshi transformations from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's
Island... A piece of that game comes into play here on the Yoshi
Circuit, as we see a giant Yoshicopter hovering over the track.

More
ads, but not all... There are so many billboards and posters scattered
throughout the tracks, that I'm not going to feature them all with
one update... So in addition to the ones that were shown last time,
here are a few more...
|
|
Mushroom
Bridge
On the right side of the Mushroom Bridge
course, we can see three consecutive billboards. Although the 'Nintendo'
one is the only one that's really legible from this screenshot,
the one to the right says 'Mario Kart', while the very last one
to the left reads 'Mario Real Estate'.
|
|
 Sherbet
Land
Just some ads found on the outside
'boards' of the track, and one of them is for the 'Skating Rink'.
Apparently the advertising is working, as the ice is infested with
annoying ShyGuys... Also mentioned, is 'SNOWMAN'...
In the right screenshot, we see ads for KoopaKart, and Super Mushroom.
Maybe 'SuperMushroom' is one of the 'items' that can be found in
Wario's Pharmacy? Who knows...
|
|
 Yoshi
Circuit
This track features a Birdo advertisement
for 'Ribbon', which could be a fabric company or something. To the
right, we see another ad for Delfino Fruits, which was also spotted
in Peach Beach during the previous update to the 'Stuff' page.
|
|
Mushroom
City
There's nothing wrong with a little self-promotion, which is why
Nintendo included a GameCube logo here on the side of a building...
Little things like this are always fun to spot and post right here
on Detstar.com... Also nearby, is a big sign with a red shell on
it.
