Earth Temple

Written by Hutz

At the entrance of the dungeon is a stone slab with the Earth God's Lyric printed on it. With Medli by your side, you can finally enter the Earth Temple. Simply bring her to the slab and conduct the Earth God's Lyric for her, and after she plays it with her harp, it'll shatter into pieces, opening the way forward. Jump into the hole within.

Pick up Medli and jump directly across the first room, and her wings will add some air time to your jump. While still carrying her, open up the door and enter the next area. Leave her near the entrance, draw your sword, and prepare to fight off a few Moblins. Be wary of the lanterns that they'll throw to try and burn you with. When they're dealt with, return to Medli and carry her up the left staircase. Jump over to the faraway platform and Medli will carry you there, flying even further than before. Step on the switch with Link and play the Command Melody to take control of Medli. Fly over to the other platform and step on the switch. With both switches depressed, the door will open. With Link, carry Medli through to the next room.

Drop your companion in the beam of light radiating in the center of the room, then whip out your sword and destroy all the red and green Chu Chus. The purple ones seem invincible, but that's where Medli comes in. If you haven't Called her, she'll stand in place and look at you constantly. Run tight circles around her so her reflective harp directs light across the room in circles, hitting anything in its path. The purple Chu Chus will turn to stone upon exposure to direct light, allowing you to pick them up and smash them to the ground or bash them to bits with the Skull Hammer. Now use the Command Melody to take direct control of Medli. In the light, the A button icon will continually flash. Look in the direction of the partially invisible treasure chest and press A to gain precise control of her harp. With enough light reflected on it, the chest will take physical form. Within it is the dungeon's Map. Before leaving the room, don't forget to burn the wooden lid on the warp pot for later.

In this area, there's a lot of blue mist on the floor near the giant head on the wall. This mist will leave you temporarily unable to use items. Place Medli in the beam of light to the right and play the Command Melody to gain control of her. Direct her harp's reflected beam of light with A to the large peg within the mist. The light parts the mist, so press R to return to Link and jump down to pound in the peg with the Skull Hammer. With Medli, enter the room that just opened.

Again, place Medli at the entrance and defeat the enemies (or enemy, in this room) before continuing. Atop the ladder to the left is a large block. Pull the block until a ray of light spills onto the floor. Use Medli to reflect the light beam on the near-invisible treasure chest, revealing an actual chest with a small key. The room to the right only has use once you've gotten your hands on the dungeon's item, so be sure to return when you've collected it so you can get another lovely Joy Pendant. Return to the door that was locked before, running by the purple arm creatures quickly.

Before bring Medli further into this room, bring out your Bow and switch to fire mode. To the left of the entrance is a tattered curtain. Fry the curtain to reveal a beam of light, which will act as a sort of safe haven from the purple Chu Chus here. Defeat the assorted colors of Chu Chus and turn the purple ones to stone, then place them on the two switches. A staircase will form ahead, so quickly run up with Link. As Medli you can simply fly up there, stairs or no stairs. Push the giant block onto the floor, opening the next door. Enter it with Link and Medli.

Leave Medli behind and attack the purple arm that tries to grab you. Target it and use a vertical strike combo to defeat it. Don't let it grab you for too long, as it'll take you backwards through he dungeon. To the left of the entrance is a block. Push it along the path to reveal a beam of light in the middle of the room. Use Medli to direct the light towards five areas: four yellow markings on the walls and a statue with a similar marking on its forehead. Ignore the warp pot that was revealed, and push the block that was previously weighted by the statue. A treasure chest with the Compass will take form at the top of the room. Now pull the remaining block to the end of the room, opening the door and creating a makeshift staircase. Climb up the 'staircase' with Link and fly up with Medli. Before leaving, collect the Compass.

Immediately after entering, take control of Medli with the Command Melody and fly up to the platform on the right, which has a beam of light. First, fry the statues across the room, then take aim at each of the ghosts that are near invisible. With enough light they'll take physical form and become panicked. Aim the light near the center of the room in case it's needed again, then press R to return to Link. With Link, quickly rush in and defeat the ghosts before they vanish again, then take the battle to the two Moblins. If a ghost possesses you, your Control Stick movement will be reversed temporarily; simply turn your controller upside down and evade the other enemies until the ghost's effect wears off. When all's done, collect the treasure chest that Medli revealed before and run up the stairs her, entering the next open door.

Drop your partner at the top and drop down to the bottom. There are five caskets sitting at the wall. The one on the far right contains an important key; allow the lid to fall, then collect it. The other ones from right to left are: zombie, zombie, yellow Rupee, zombie. To defeat the zombies, stay far back and do a leap attack. From there, simply perform attack combos until it's defeated. If it stuns you with loud shrieking and jump on you, rotate the Control Stick and hit the A and B buttons quickly until its grasp lets loose, then retaliate with attacks. With all the zombies destroyed, a ladder will fall and let you go back.

Enter the door with the lock on it to face a mini boss. Well, more like three of them. The Boss Strategies page shows the best way to defeat them. Once you've proven yourself against your competitors, you'll receive quite the shiny gift: a Mirror Shield. Snazzy. Head back to Medli now.

Re-enter the room with the Moblins and ghosts and defeat them all over again. With Medli, direct light to the floor in front, and use Link's new reflective shield to burn away the yellow marking on the wall underneath Medli. Now aim the light into the new tunnel, to wall on the right. You'll reveal a horde of Rupees, so gather them all and continue on with Medli. Burn away the statue to reveal a blue Rupee. After going through the next door you'll wind up in a familiar area.

You're back with the big smiley head now. First, command Medli to shine light onto one of the face's eyes, and when half of the face starts glowing, carefully hit R without moving the harp to return to Link. Now use your Mirror Shield to make the other half of the face glow. A staircase will be revealed now, and the blue mist will disperse. Head down the staircase with Medli.

Ahead is a bridge that's guarded by a few flaming skulls. These aren't normal flames, though; they're blue and prevent you from using weapons for a while, much like the blue mist in the previous area. Use ice-tipped arrows to douse the flames and use your sword to crush the skulls. Off to the side is nothing but a few Rupees, but it's probably better not to risk falling at the point, as the floor is covered with those greedy purple hands. If you really want them, though, use the Deku Leaf to fly across and crack open the jars and skulls to receive your reward. Across the bridge is the entrance to the next room, covered by another stone slab. Conduct the Earth God's Lyric for Medli and she'll open up the way forward.

Leave Medli behind and defeat the two zombies in this room, then burn off the statue that rests upon the block ahead. Reflect light off each of the mirrors in the corners to eliminate two larger statues that block two doors. Go to the one on your left first, with Medli of course.

With Medli in tow, make a leap of faith off of the right part of the platform and across all the blue mist, in which a few purple hands thrive. At the end is a block with a mirror on it. Pull it to the end of the groove, then jump up on the next platform and bash the stake in with the Skull Hammer, activating a light on the other side of the fence. Head back to the previous room now, and enter the door directly across.

Leave Medli near the entrance run through the blue mist, being absolute certain to avoid all the purple hands. At the far end is a treasure chest with a key in it. Once the key's been collected, the blue mist will part. Now it's time to slice up all the hands in this room, if you want a Treasure Chart, making sure not to stay grabbed for too long. When they're all gone, a treasure chest with a Treasure Chart will appear. Head back to the previous room and enter the locked door, with Medli in tow of course, on the platform that can be reached by pushing the block.

Before solving the puzzle here, defeat all the enemies. The ghosts must first be made visible by directing light with your Mirror Shield towards them. Now it's time to fry some statues. The two on the back wall, which contain fairly useless items, can be disintegrated with Link alone, but Medli is required for the last one. Have Medli direct light towards the center of the room, in front of the statue. Reflect that light with Link's Mirror Shield to the statue, and it'll disappear, revealing the next door.

Leaving Medli by the door, run through this area and remove all the casket lids to collect items and defeat zombies. You'll come across a key in one of the caskets and a fighting skeleton in another. At the very end is yet another stone slab. Bring Medli there and conduct the Earth God's Lyric for her, and the path will be opened.

Ahead is a staircase to your left, but first go to the right and set a bomb near the warp pot to remove the boulder from it. To cross the gap on the stairs, fly across while holding Medli. There's a door at the end. This room contains the mother of all puzzles, or something near it. First, command Medli to hit the switch atop one of the platforms, which will reveal some light. With Link, walk around and find any mirrors that can be pushed along grooves. Initially, there are two of them. Stand on the platform that now has light beaming past it and reflect light towards the partially invisible treasure chest. Grab the fifty Rupees within, then use Medli to shine light near the small pedestal with the harp logo on it to the left of the mirror. Use Link to reflect the light at the walls with four yellow markings on it, revealing a large mirror and some Rupees. Pull the mirror to its destination along the groove. Destroy the gray statue beside the new mirror to reveal another large mirror. Push it along to create a large chain-reaction of reflected light. Despite the success sound, there's still plenty to do here.

On the other side of the room is another pedestal that has light shining by it now. Use the reflected light to reveal a treasure chest with a Joy Pendant in it, then bring Medli to the pedestal and shine light to the smaller platform with the harp logo on it. With Link, burn away another weak wall with yellow markings on it, and pull the revealed mirror to its destination. A larger chain reaction has been built, and a large, gray statue will be destroyed. Behind it was the last mirror, so push it to its destination. Finally, there's enough light to finish the puzzle. First, destroy the wall on the west side of the room and enter a small area with several of the attacking skeletons, which are revealed by pointing light at their caskets. Use Medli to reveal each one, one at a time, and have Link defeat them. When all three are dealt with, pull out a block to use as a step and receive the contents of the freshly revealed chest: a Treasure Chart! Head back to the puzzle you haven't fully completed yet.

On the northern part of the room is another big face. Standing on the lighted pedestals nearby, use Medli and Link to light up both halves of the face at once, revealing a room with the Big Key in it.

Use the Boomerang to take out all the skulls from the entrance. Don't step too close to the armored knight quite yet. The skulls will take form if you get close, so it's best to do away with them while they're grounded. When they're all done, take on the knight. Once defeated, the Boss Key will be revealed. Take it and get back to the room with the boss chamber in it.

To get back up, crawl up the vines with Link and fly up with Medli. Now lift her and fly across the room to the boss chamber. See the Boss Strategies page for info on this boss.
